filter caps question for Dave .

I have heard from alot of people that you need to change the filter caps about every 5 to 7 years . My ks marshall is a 79 and has the original filter caps in it . I was wondering what you thought about changing them ? Changing them is easy enough and they aren't that expensive . I just don't want one to go and take the out put tranny with it .
also will a filter cap change effect the tone ?

Cap change would be a good idea on a '79 if they're original. It will change the tone usually for the better. Tightens up the bottom end. Go with F&T.

+ 1 on F&T, i had a cap job on both my 78' JMP 2203's, they have quite a bit more MoJo......DOOO EEEETTT.

Definitely! F&T is a good brand. The cap under the preamp board can be changed from top side. Be sure to replace the bias supply caps as well. Sprague Atoms are perfect here. It can be a little tricky to get under the board to do it if have mods done. You may have to desolder a couple of Dave's components to be able to bend the board up enough to get an iron under it. Did Dave add the two resistors to one of your screen supply caps like he did on mine? You may want to ask him about it. Really helped with a little ghosting I had.

I have my Carvin X100B from 1988. I am the original owner. I played the amp on and off over the last 22 years. I had my friend change the caps for me last Monday. He tested them and they were still good, but I told him to change them anyways.
There was definately a difference. Like mentioned the bottom end tightened up. It was also more percussive and had a faster attack. I would say change the caps.
