Yep, that's the idea. I have more stuff in the oven with some less common speakers and mics, but especially for the main demos it makes sense to use the type of gear that everyone has a reference point for

Like yeah I can use my vintage 421 and 121 and i'm sure it will sound great but then everyone is going to have a slightly skewed idea of what i'm doing in my signal chain.

And regarding speakers, the only "Fancy" ones really are the scumback BM75LDs, and even then they aren't wildly exotic or anything, just like a really well done, killer sounding blackback. The rest of my cabinets and speakers are the salt of the earth stuff - V30s, 12Ls, T75s, reissue GBs, a sheffield somewhere, a couple other common ones.

Some 12L action with a 57 would be cool. Ime the EV stuff basically gives you the amp as close to uncolored as you can get.

I was thinking of youtube idiots who use something basic like a strat but then drench the tone in delay or verb... lol, pointless listening. Or they point out some oddball or obscure pedal activated in their chain. Seems like the captain obvious stuff goes right over their heads. Anyways, youve heard those complaints from me before. I suspect if you demoed gear on yt often your channel would do pretty good.

And yes, I have debated doing a full youtube thing before, but I simply don't have the personality for it. I'm too opinionated, not a good schmoozer, and wouldn't be keen on shilling RAID SHADOW LEGENDS in some youtube video about celestion on something. So although I am confident that I could make really interesting content, I don't think I would ever be very successful at it. You need to be a trust fund baby or have nothing but time and money like Reza or KB to really do the youtube thing, and I while I might be able to squeeze the time out, that would probably make the money factor worse.

Seems this amp is like a good vintage Marshall in that as long as you have a good cab, good speakers, good guitar and pickups you really can't fuck it up and make it not sound great.

Oh I guarantee you I could somehow make it sound bad.

Since both of you are EV enjoyers, here's me trying to do the 7/8 intro to "lightning to the nations" with the MGL and a 12L/57

Sounds good on my crappy Chromebook. Even gained up that amp is "clean". The detail level seems unrivaled especially with the EV's. I'll put it on blast through my monitors in the a.m and see if it still holds true.

My thoughts with the EV so far is that no matter where i set the gain, it just sounds "big", like there's reverb there even when there isn't reverb there

I am going to mess around and dial it in a bit more, I might actually use the EV instead of greenbacks or blackbacks with the metal track, it just sounds huge no matter what else is going on

Also @japetus I hate you for picking this song and not "in the meantime" or "unsung" or another helmet song i've actually heard before, because I had to completely fake my way through this

however, I think it gets the point across for the spicy chords and harmonics, as well as the drop d power chord thing

Wow. You really nailed that intro. The rest sounds different than the Helmet Fryette sound (obviously), but honestly equally as good. Really dig this.
