Agreed, it's kind of sad, because as one of those legendary 80s shredders it seems like he should have a "grail tone" like Yngwie or John Sykes or EVH or whoever... but he never had that in any way whatsoever

Dude was always kind of a meme... story a long time ago about someone snatching his wig off and it became a bounty for players/roadies.. kinda funny but not.
I think he didn't do either right... He wasn't tasty and he wasn't calculated... Sykes? Tasty.. Yngwie? Calculated... MAB? Chaos. Very nice guy, but I've never honestly heard a tasty rythym or a lead that just blew me away. At least Yngwie is rooted in classical.

I don’t know if I’d consider him chaos. A little more chaos probably would have helped. Especially as far as his tone is concerned. I would love to hear him through something a little more organic and not the sound of a tube screamer into a clean amp.

This might have been the era he was endorsed by randall? But good lord, it certainly doesn't sound very good - and those old randall SS amps are pretty bitchin if they are in good shape.
Even a rockman can sound quite good - check out all the leads on megadeth "peace sells" - i believe that's a rockman into a twin? or something like that.
MAB is one of those guys who's suffered from horrific tone for almost his entire career though, at some point it's just like, jesus dude how do you not KNOW?

I thought a 50W single channel would be sufficient, but as far as I can determine, the Modern / Vintage mode isn't footswitchable....so a 2-channel with each channel set to a different mode would let channel switching do it.

Yes on the 2-channel amp. Because we build to order, we can make the channels what you want. We even do a clean for channel 1. We've also done an added extra gain switch for amps with 2 dirty channels so both channels can be set to Vintage Dirty or Hi-Gain. Standard 2-channel is usually channel 1 with the gain selection switch and channel 2 Hi-Gain only.

Your standard 2-channel, with two dirty channels, channel 1 switch between Vintage Dirty and Hi-gain, and channel 2 fixed to high gain would cover what I want. Are the saturation and tone-cap switches standard on the single and two channel?

Yes, Saturation is standard on ALL of our amp models. The tone cap switch is for the first tone cap in the circuit and that is only on the Modern/Vintage or Limited all mustard circuit amps. Both single and 2-channel amps have the switch. The 2-channel amps have a number of other switches on the front panel also. There's a very detailed description of all of the switches front and back for each amp listing on our website.
