Holy shit, that ends my gig posting vids.

You Curt flat out destroy! This is why I buy my Charvels from this man

Scott,
Thanks brother. Your coolness will be missed by me this week at NAMM. Better yet, why not fly out for NAMM and take your new guitar home with you? I'll even help you tackle Steve Vai this time.

+1 Come hang out Scotty!

Wish I could Randy, you guys do not know how much I miss hanging out

awesome! (I will not use overused smilie icons with hands flying up in the air)

Thanks Don! I won't use your real name because of that whole witness protection program and that guy on the Cameron forum was threatening to beat you silly last week.

Your opinion means a lot to me because I think we have extremely similar ears and likes in tone. Plus we both saw Rhoads live in Chicago.

That one day when you were playing those Alcatrazz riffs over the phone....... well lets just say you had me at hello.

I wish I could just reach in and tickle that goatee and not with my fingers. You complete me.

Oh man......... this board is just too much. :hys:

Sounded great man! The '78 is a great pickup. I have an old zebra '78 in one of my Les Pauls like yours, it kills! It has a great zing to it.

Right on bro'!

that sounded badass man! Great tones and killer playing!

Really dig the clip - outstanding all around.

I see from your post what pickups you're using but could you give a rundown on all the mods you did on the So Cal? I just got one in candy plum that I'm really happy with but I want to mod it to a super strat config and possibly switch to a gotoh floyd. Also how did you get the relic look - I thought these were poly? Thanks!

You should hear the double tracked Splawn rhythms behind the solo. Freaking huge!

Actually I did notice the huge sounding rhythm; it does sound great.

Thanks for the speaker answer too, cheers.

Thanks. What I did to the So Cal is put beat up old gold Grovers in place of the black ones. Put on a chrome nut. Put on brass strap locks, a brass input jack plate and a brass knob. I put an old chrome Floyd Rose on it and got a H-S pickguard from Warmoth for it. Then the pickups. As for relicing. I put a thread about it on here from a couple of months ago, it's here:

That sounded great...you've got the touch and tone down
Love the mods on the So-Cal too...pretty much what I would have done, the H/S setup is my favorite for gigging.

Excellent playing. You gots the authority going in your playing.

Man, the tone of the rhythm guitars is freakin' massive! Great job!

Meant to comment earlier at work today, but got busy. Killer playing brother! I enjoyed that tone and shred

Great clip Chub. But Scott, how bout next year? I've got to go to at least 1 NAMM. I'm going to Hawaii for 2 weeks in March so that eats my vacation up. But i have a friend who owns a surfing instruction place than i need to visit. And i want to see just how large Yngwie's head is in person. :D

Thanks danyeo! Your lead on the James Lugo song was killer and the tone you got out of the Fortin was massive and sweet. I was impressed.

I think to see Yngwie's head you'll have to go to Miami. And you east coast guys should drag the family with you and send them to Disneyland and California Adventure while you're at NAMM. Make it a family vacation that dad won't be that available for. ;) Disneyland/California Adventure is literally right across the street. When you walk in the entrance at NAMM you hear people screaming on the rollercoasters. Or maybe that was Scott when Steve Vai walked by?

Thanks rupe!

Gigging? What's gigging? Is that where you have to deal with three or four other prima donnas and scheduling rehearsals and sitting in traffic to get there and getting beer spilled on your stuff and being hit on by 200lb, 50 year old bar hags while your wife laughs at the predicament you are in? Yeah, I miss gigging... a LOT  :D

I should do another clip where I single out the rhythm guitars because they are pretty ginormous. They're just the Splawn Quick Rod with one Charvel witha Duncan Distortion on Gear 1 OD1 panned left and the other Charvel with a Duncan Custom on Gear 1 OD2 panned right. There are three different Charvels on this track each with a different Duncan pickup.

Thanks Willy. Great avatar. Possibly my favorite band ever. I had Ty Tabor master my instrumental CD that's allegedly coming out someday.

I think this makes me more jealous of you than your playing.  I met Ty once, and he was very humble and nice. It makes it so much better when your heros are good people.

I have to tell you that I am not convinced about the Duncan '78. I have been using and fighting the thinness of PAF style pickups for years and years. Just today I was talking to donbarzini on the phone and he was playing his Charvel San Dimas that he put a Duncan Custom Custom in through a plexi style Metro Marshall with a Faustine Attenuator and an old Boss OD-1 and not only does our boy DB know how to link to the most annoying videos on You Tube, but homeboy can play and knows tone. Granted it was through the phone and everything sounds cool through the phone but when he switched to his Charvel So Cal with the JB you could hear the change.

So I brought home a guitar I rarely play that had a Duncan Custom Custom in it and compared it to the white guitar I used in this thread and the Custom Custom was THUMPING the '78, big time. It had the VH'ish thing still and was spongey and loosely tight in the lows but it just had this drive and this thick chunk that is always missing with PAF's and slightly hot PAF's like the '78.

Tomorrow I'll probably like something else more, but tonight I was thinking about adding another 5 Custom Custom's to my next Seymour order.
