Thanks Willy. Great avatar. Possibly my favorite band ever. I had Ty Tabor master my instrumental CD that's allegedly coming out someday.

I think this makes me more jealous of you than your playing.  I met Ty once, and he was very humble and nice. It makes it so much better when your heros are good people.

It also helps when your heroes are songwriting genius's and tone maestro's. Man, do I LOVE Kings X!

great phrasing and low E runs - i definately heard that charvel screaming for its momma.

or was that scott?

you need to post more vids chub - i would enjoy watching them all.

I would love to hear that same clip through the Mojave Peacemaker. Do you have any PM clips to share? Great playing BTW

See?!!??! Now, stop F'ing around and release that CD - or we may force you to change your forum name to Chumptone :gethim:

Great job, btw

That was killer Curt! What pickups?

It's a Duncan '78 in the bridge .

That's what I've got in my 30th St relic strat and man does it sound sweet!

I have to tell you that I am not convinced about the Duncan '78. I have been using and fighting the thinness of PAF style pickups for years and years. Just today I was talking to donbarzini on the phone and he was playing his Charvel San Dimas that he put a Duncan Custom Custom in through a plexi style Metro Marshall with a Faustine Attenuator and an old Boss OD-1 and not only does our boy DB know how to link to the most annoying videos on You Tube, but homeboy can play and knows tone. Granted it was through the phone and everything sounds cool through the phone but when he switched to his Charvel So Cal with the JB you could hear the change.

So I brought home a guitar I rarely play that had a Duncan Custom Custom in it and compared it to the white guitar I used in this thread and the Custom Custom was THUMPING the '78, big time. It had the VH'ish thing still and was spongey and loosely tight in the lows but it just had this drive and this thick chunk that is always missing with PAF's and slightly hot PAF's like the '78.

Tomorrow I'll probably like something else more, but tonight I was thinking about adding another 5 Custom Custom's to my next Seymour order.

Man that is awesome info. I've got a guitar I absolutley love but unhappy about the tone I'm getting out of it. I've got a SD Blues Saraceno in there now, that on paper...or at least in my head, should be a good match. It's so honky and on the thin side; it drives me nuts! I think I'll try a Custom Custom in there, a buddy of mine mentioned loving his CC awhile ago in a similar guitar. Anythngs got to be an improvement at this point.

Curt, do you use a 250k volume pot with the Duncan '78, and what vol pot would you use for the Custom Custom? Thanks a bunch man!

Nice playing and I'm glad it was a splawn. I think they are great, I got a promod last week and I really like it, I had a qr and nitro in the past but the pm works best for me. That charvel looks cool. I have past that store many times and I never stopped but next time I'm in Cali I will have to stop in and check it out.

Really dig the clip - outstanding all around.

I see from your post what pickups you're using but could you give a rundown on all the mods you did on the So Cal? I just got one in candy plum that I'm really happy with but I want to mod it to a super strat config and possibly switch to a gotoh floyd. Also how did you get the relic look - I thought these were poly? Thanks!

-TK

Thanks. What I did to the So Cal is put beat up old gold Grovers in place of the black ones. Put on a chrome nut. Put on brass strap locks, a brass input jack plate and a brass knob. I put an old chrome Floyd Rose on it and got a H-S pickguard from Warmoth for it. Then the pickups. As for relicing. I put a thread about it on here from a couple of months ago, it's here:

Thanks, Curt. That's exactly the info I was looking for. Interesting read on the history of the relic job. Even though it may not have turned out to be exactly what you had envisioned, I really like the vibe.

No Scott was not screaming at NAMM, that was Kage when Neal Schon showed up

Oh another NAMM will happen at some point Danny, do not worry  I do not care what anyone says, you have not achived total 100% whore level if you have not been to the meca of new gear. PLus hanging with the boys makes the time even better.

Favorite part of that vid is the lick from 1:06-1:08. Love it....Splawns rule.

that was really cool
firey phrasing, manly tone

zachman tried to teach me that vibrato and i just never figured out the pivot and it killed my finger! the bb king stinger!

Badass Curt! Sounded really good. What pickups you got in that So Cal?

Sup RR my slime green brotha?

I've got a Duncan '78 in the bridge and a Duncan SSL-5 in the neck. That's only on Gear 1 of the Splawn which is the lowest gain channel but it's on OD2.

Sweet! Zachman was talking about the Duncan '78 a few months ago. He digs that pickup.

I finally decided to man up and post a video. This is me doing some overdubs for a Splawn Quick Rod demo I've been working on.

By the way, awesome "Lynch-like" soloing between 1:06-1:08!

My cd is full of Peacemaker tones and will available some time in 2010. Hopefully soon.

I use 500k pots in everything I have with humbuckers. I don't think the Custom Custom is the answer to everything. I need to experiment more but the other night it was like "where have you been all my life?" :D

Thanks again for all the compliments guys. I'm trying to answer any questions but if I missed anything it wasn't intentional.

thanks curt! That kicked ass. I told scott about that clip you did for the james lugo thing, you sould forward both of these to him!

Thanks Josh!

I talked to Scott about this video already and he wants to use it. I'll send him the J Lugo one too.
