New to the forums, and new to owning a shiva. Did some research to find out more about what I got and it seems to be a true first year standard run (with the fan and line-level effects loop).

I had to serviced to clean it up after receiving it, but I have never seen an amp with a fan before, so was confused about it. What's it for? Should I run it if it's only being used in a studio setting? Any way to have it modded to remove the fan?

Welcome man!

I am not remotely an expert, but Mesa amps also have fans in them for cooling purposes iirc.

So should I be running the fan at all if I'm justing using it for an hour or so for studio work?

Just run it when it’s on for a long time . I actually find that the fan acts a boost . Jk but you never know

It's likely there for a reason, though with Bogner who knows? I wouldn't bypass it unless the noise is impacting your recording or similar.

Does it activate automatically once the amp gets to certain temperature, or is it manually activated with a switch? My Engl E850/100 has a fan IIRC, it goes on / off automatically.

added bonus, maybe you could use it like Vai uses lots of fans live?

A day with Steve Vai

Another post elsewhere mentions that the resistor on the fan switch can be lifted to make it on/off rather than high/low, and as long as you're not cranking the channel/master volumes it should be fine. You could also replace the stock fan with a quieter PC fan. No first hand experience with this (I have a 20th Shiva), so probably best to email Bogner and ask them to be sure.
