Well, where would the shims go ? Under the outer saddles to raise them up to flatten the radius ? You could grind the bottom of the middle 4 saddles on a surface grinder to accomplish the same thing without shims.

Who has a surface grinder?

Yes, the shims go under the saddles.
They're pretty common in machine shops...I have one.

Would you happen to know what the shim thickness is ?

No I dont. Ive never used them. Even with my OFR equipped Hamers that had 16" boards I never noticed an issue with the radius of the bridge. I wonder if Hamer corrected the radius at the factory...

New Schaller made Floyds are hit or miss quality-wise. I've had saddle bottoms fall out, rough edges on saddles, saddle blocks crack and break.

Search for John Suhr's complaints about new Floyds. My old '85 Floyd has zero problems after 20 plus years. They aren't made like that anymore.

I agree. But Suhr's suggestion that the Gotoh Floyd knock off is an improvement is laughable.

The Floyds come with a shim installed under the middle four strings to make it a 10 degree radius. Pop the shim out in about 2 minutes and you have a radius that will work on 12-16 degree fretboards.

I'm sure Suhr has a lot more experience comparing bridges than I do but I've had saddles break on a couple of musicman's I've owned. Stuff happens.

Hey Stramm, what's the orphan 70s Bonham kit ? Vistalite or maple ?

The shells are all early 70's 3-ply maple/poplar/maple shells. Sizes are 26/14/16/18. The snare is of course, an early 70's 6 1/4x14 Supraphonic 402 :D

Oh, that's KICK ASS ! I've been looking for a kit like that FOREVER ! Good for you finding all the pieces, and it's kind of cool that they don't match ! Nice work ! Did you buy each piece separately or did they all come together ? If I were willing to buy a kit with a 22 inch kick I could get the other pieces and then sell off the 22 when I find a 26...just don't see those 26 inch kicks too often.

Well Stramm if you ever did want to recover those things, there is a guy in Nashville that specializes in recovering, restoring and building...does alot of work on old Ludwigs. Not to mention probably the best rock drummer in this area. Check his Facebook site out...

I may get the toms recovered at some point but I wouldn't use anyone other than Matt Sinyard at http://www.bonzodrums.com. I'm sure your guy is great but Matt is madman and he lives about 45 minutes away   Here's a bonham kit he did for me back in 2005:

Can't beat 45 min away lol. My best friend is one of the main guys at Pearl in Nashville but pretty sure he's got an old Ludwig kit hidden somewhere ;)
