So I bought this GREAT new PRS 24 Floyd and received it this week.

This is the guitar, they sent me pics before shipping:

I decided to remove one of the springs, so I took off the trem cover and detached the round part from the claw...but the "post" part that sinks into the small holes in the block will not come out. Its just plain stuck. I've tried needle nose pliers, prying with a small flathead screwdriver, but nothing seems to work. Other springs are behaving the same way. Granted I haven't put a ton of power into pulling it out...I don't want to slip with pliers and hack up the guitar. I've never had this happen before with a floyd.

Anyone ever experience this or perhaps suggest a solution?

Thanks

Maybe try pulling back on the block to reduce the tension on the springs and then work a flathead screwdriver under the spring where it meets the block?

I've had that on occasions - I think it happens when the angle of the post on the spring at the block end is more than 90 degrees, so the pin kind of hooks into the block. In my experience, you just have to get a little 'agricultural' and lever them out.

Or, unless you have good reason, just leave 'em be :)

by pulling the spring up at an angle it's binding it even more and the end of the spring the pin that goes in the block is at a slight angle. Let the spring rest and use the trem bar to get it at a better angle and pull with needle nose directly where it's inserted. Might have to try wiggling it side to side at the same time.

and by the way, awesome guitar! Like the color and love the unfinished flamed maple necks on these

+1 on all the advice. I've had this same issue before.

Thanks guys I will try everything posted..it all makes sense.

The neck on this is crazy with flame and unfinished. Big ass frets round it out and it's one unique PRS indeed.

Unless the block was installed backwards on the floyd for some reason the holes in it and the springs themselves are slightly angled towards the headstock like the below pic. So don't pull up the way you are from the loop end that just makes it hook more. You need to sort of push it up and out going with the angle.

I just recently had the same issue and heated mine with a soldering iron to expand the metal a little and it came right out.

How does that guitar sound........and how much sustain does it have, especially given the floyd rose......

So far so good, I've only had it for a few days.

The \M/ (or however it's "spelled") pickups are pretty high output and very clear sounding.

I certainly haven't experienced anything I'd describe as a lack of sustain. Rather, it screams thru my amps. I've used it with my CCV and EVH 50 and it screams.

If you have good technique and properly dressed frets, you should never have trouble with sustain.

I have a Parker Nitefly M with Duncan Distortion and Jazz pickups. I have a 5150 half stack.
I have very little to almost no sustain on this guitar......so much so that i want to sell it and buy a Les Paul type guitar. I was also contemplating the PRS Floyd for the vibrato, ebony neck and hoping it has great sustain too.....

please advise!
ps: did not mean to hi jack this thread, but as we're talking about the PRS Floyd, i thought i'd seek advice.

DAMN IT. I got the damn spring off...at some point while pulling on it with my needle nose pliers while using my other hand to move the bridge up and down for different angles it suddenly let go, and OF COURSE, I then smacked the guitar against the edge of my desk and chipped the binding on the top. $#@!!#@$%@^#^$#%@!#%!@#$#$#@$#!# and $$@$@#$@#$@#$#@$@%%#$%#$ my @#$#@$@!#$#@$. I am such a dumb ass for the way I holding the guitar when doing this.

LOL. I guess I don't have worry about that "first ding" anymore. This must be a record.

Sucks, sorry man. I always pull springs off from the pin side first and have never had one stick.

And some guitars just don't sustain well, but I don't think it has much to do with the bridge. I have some hardtails and some guitars with Floyds, and the Floyds sustain just as well as far as I can tell, and I love me some long sustaining bends and vibratos.

When was the last time you changed your tubes? And are you using any boost pedals in front of the amp?

hahaha...same happened to me, but my screwdriver slipped and gashed the back.
it was painful for a week, then you get over it.

Tube change has been a while, but the sustain issue i have experienced on multiple rigs........
No boost pedal.....

could be the pickups or a wiring issue, could be technique.
