For those with a Mark IIC+ HRG....

I got two DRG amps... one is a C+ with a 100 PT and the other one a C++ with a 105 PT.
Both of them were serviced by Mike B., and they sounded so good when I got them back from servicing that I've decided not to touch a thing. So, both of them just got Mesa stock 12AX7 pres.

Gotcha. Mine are mesa now.
Good enough for now I supposed. Although I want some 415's for the power section for sure.

I use Sylvania 387's or 415's and Chinese Square Getter 12ax7's in my HRG's.

I bought a couple hundred from a tube collector and I buy them off Reverb and eBay. I also have 400+ Sylvania 387's and 415's.

All of my C+s, 4 (all sold now), I used 415s or used Sylvania 6L6GCs (and hoped they biased ok) for power and a mix of Chinese Bs and Tungsram 12ax7s (which they all came with from the factory btw). I tried other pre tube combos but came back to that ^^ configuration.
A good substitute for the 415s are the Sovtek 5881s, they can handle the higher PV of those amps. TADs were another option but they've become unreliable.

Mark 3 here but I like Chinese in all the slots except v1. I think an older Mullard sounds best there. Really good “harmonics”, brightness, and low end. I find the tungs to be to bloaty and fat but they might be a bit different in a 2c.

are "chinese B's" the 6n4?

The Bs are the tubes that are for the public to use/sell in China; while the 6N4 was the military version of the B that are tested and are considered to be the best of the best; hence the military approval for them.
If it's a choice I'd get the 6N4.

I got mine off a local guy who had a garage full of pulls and nos stuff. They’re’s a fair amount of eBay but what you want to look for is the i63.
Also I think you mentioned elsewhere about powertubes. Check out peavy 6l6 pulls, that’s how I got a quad or str387’s or 415’s for next to nothing.
