Former Bogner ecstacy owners.. what replaced it?

I wouldn't say I replaced it with something else because it didn't give me what I want. 20th XTC with 6l6 was my favorite tube amp.

I had a 101B way back in '98 and when I got bit by the Lukather bug, I sold it and bought a Rivera Bonehead. BIG regret.
A little ironic that Steve is now playing the 101B, although I thought he sounded better through the Bonehead.

Another vote here for the Wizard. I picked up a Wizard Modern Classic II which wiped the floor with the 101B (IMO) and out it went. I did hold on to my 20th Shiva though.

I had one in the late 90's and just couldn't get past wanting that Marshall "kerang" back. Traded it for a white plexi half stack and never regretted it. But back then everything I tried went through a strong Marshall filter. A Pitbull UL fell victim to the same. Wish I still had that one. I dig amps a lot more now for what "they" do and would do another Ecstasy. I can actually appreciate Mesa's now because I don't directly compare them to what I would get out of a 6 knob Marshall. RE the Ecstasy, I never did think the blue channel was this Holy Grail tone. Just a nice one. Always liked the Red Channel more and Plexi mode was always uninspiring compared to an actual plexi. Clean channel when overdriving is pretty ugly, at least on the 90's one I had.

Of course I wouldn't possibly be eying a used one right now

Never selling my 20th. It truly does everything excellently, and my other amps just give different flavours :)

Replaced my 101 with a CII+. Should have kept them both...

Marshall JVM410H. After a year of trying to get the Bogner to give me the Marshall tone I had in my head, I just got a Marshall.

I've had a couple.

Moved them because I could never get a balance I liked (long term) between the channels.

A blue channel with a hair more gain, would have been great; never was in love with feel of the red channel.

Dig the sound of others playing them, just not for me.

Replaced by Camerons, and Cornford; now just Cornford.
This was me too. I also feel that they are too compressed for my taste.

One of the few amps I've owned that I never have even thought of selling. It's my desert island amp... every channel isn't perfect but overall it's damn near unbeatable for me.

This :D

If an XTC could get a Helios-type tone, it would be the perfect amp for me. Like the others, I missed that dead on Marshall kerrang.

The clips I hear of the 100Bs seem to have more Marshall kerrang .... but it's hard to tell from just a clip.

To Reinhold's credit, he wasn't trying to recreate someone else's tone.... he forged one all his own. But I think alot of players here have that Marshall roar blueprinted on their brains, and nothing else will do.

That's very true: if you want an amp specifically to do the high-mid, Marshall, British thing then the XTC won't quite do it (though it does a pretty good impersonation). I prefer a slightly darker, AIC-esque gain tone and for that the XTC has no equal.

I still have a Killer Kali ++ (aka the best Marshall ever) for when the kerrang is required though, ahem...

Went from a 101b to a 20thA, which addressed the concerns I had with the 101b. It has since been my go-to amp. It's amazing for how feature-laden it is to also be able dial in a good sound so easily. I use a lot of the features - boost, plexi, etc. It covers the vintage and the modern styles really well for me. It's not true to a Marshall midrange and that's a good thing...plenty of those around.

Wizard Modern Classic sent mine off with it's tail between it's legs. Never liked the feel of it….too saggy. Blue channel was decent, just could never get it where I wanted it. Red channel was unusable. Don't miss it at all. Still have the Wizard and use it all the time.

+1 for me there was no comparison.. wizard made it sound small/compressed and lacking full bandwidth.

I still miss having an XTC, but love my Splawn QR's (3 pre and 2012).

I've owned four XTC's- white chassis, 100B, 101B & 20th Anni. FWIW, the 101B with the Marvel mod running KT88's was my favorite. Nothing beats the organic low mid growl of an XTC. Just the right amount of sag and an inspiring amp to play by itself. Unfortunately, in a 2 guitar band, the amp just didn't cut through the mix the way I needed.
