One of the local guys back up in WV had one. Last time i saw him playing, he was using a THD Flexi. He said the Bogner was at home in the closet.

Wizard Modern Classic sent mine off with it's tail between it's legs. Never liked the feel of it….too saggy. Blue channel was decent, just could never get it where I wanted it. Red channel was unusable. Don't miss it at all. Still have the Wizard and use it all the time.

+1 for me there was no comparison.. wizard made it sound small/compressed and lacking full bandwidth.
So being a self admitted XTC/Bogner fanboi, I best be staying away from the Wizards is what you guys are basically saying. Right?

Scott Ian and Angus Young seem to enjoy them. :D

I dunno, if you like the Bogner sound probably won't like a Wizard. Most complain about them being too bright, not enough gain and too loud. I don't get that, but it is what it is. Mine is an awesome amp.

Had my XTC for a year and a half and disliked it a little more every time I played it. Sounded too small, too dark and too much sag for me.

Absolutely FREAKIN Loved my 101b, freaking felt amazing and sounded so damn good even at apartment levels

THEN

Played it with a drummer and sold it the NEXT day... I realized the that that attack was too liquid for me and my style and it didn't attack or move air like I wanted... Made me sound like a saxophone, keyboardist, or Vinnie Moore at volume (not that Vinnie's bad, but I prefer more "smack" in the attack)

Replaced immediately with a Splawn modded Marshall that sounded f**kin great with the same drummer, but too loud at my apartment without some tone squashing attenuation

Moved on to:

EVH 5150III (100w) ate both Bog and Splawn for my taste, one of my top three of all time, just worked

the other two:

Budda SD80 or 45- both sounded amazing for my hands and if I ever get another big amp it'll be one of these, perfect balance of thicker Marshall like the Bogner and punch/smack

All of this in IMHO,
YMMV

Cheers

No, I think you would love a Wizard. You seem to appreciate more than one flavor. Wizards are great amps.

See, everything you described about the Ecstasy is what I felt about the Budda's. They have a softness in the overdrive that has no spank or decent bite IMO. At least with the Ecstasy if you get the presence up you get plenty of bite and attack. Also, at volume keep the Excursion tight. Mind you, I never got to play my Ecstasy in a band setting so can't speak to what you experienced there. It wasn't until much later than when I owned one, that I got a better handle on dialing it in unfortunately. I can only say that any band I saw live who used one sounded very good. I would do one again. It wouldn't be my "Marshall" amp, just my Bogner one.

Ecstasy classic owner and nothing I have will dethrone it. Covers a lot of ground and having three channels is awesome. Did the Cameron mod to mine to make the red chain a bit more usable. Love the amp. I have a hard time selling amps so it will probably never leave. Currently one of the guitar players in one of my bands uses it at practice at my house and he loves it. Mixes in well with him using the Ecstasy and the other guitarist using my Splawn Nitro.

Replaced mine with Friedman BE-100 ... come to think of it ... I replaced all my amps with the Friedman, that's the only one I have left now ... sold: 101b, SLO, Fargen 800MkII, Matchless Clubman ... etc.

I really love my 101B. I think most people choke theirs by running the (log-taper) tone pots too low in their ranges if you want the Marshall bite.

It is the only amp I've owned that can do the Blackface thing (when set right), the EVH & the Eric Johnson thing. It is NOT a modern amp, though power tubes make a big difference in it. The 101A is a bit more versatile and probably never got it's just due.

Let me rephrase.

My pocketbook would most appreciate my staying away from the Wizard amps

Replaced mine with the Fish pre and a Shiva (those didn't last long either). I thought it sounded good on the blue channel but it didn't feel/respond the way I like. Red channel was uninspiring.

Replaced my 101B (that I got from Shark Diver) with an SLO Rackmount (also that I got from Shark Diver).....I miss it once in a while and would have kept it but couldnt justify both...

I had a Modern Classic that donkey punched my Uberschall Twin Jet out the room, the MC was fuller and more aggressive. That was a ridiculous amp when i had it...sold it earlier this year

Replaced my Ecstasy Classic with a Marshall DSL50 head, followed by an Engl Powerball II, followed by a Lickliter Rage, followed by my current Marshall 2203X. The XTC was great... but honestly no better than any of the others (for what I needed/wanted them for). Bogner Shivas and XTCs were my dream amps for about a decade. I've now owned both and can honestly say that I'm over Bogners. They're great, but I prefer a classic Marshall tone and find that a Bogner is a Bogner. Which is ultimately not where my heart lies. Also, I've become turned-off by multi-channel amps with miles of circuitry these days. I want simple, toneful amps. I'll use my OCD V4 pedal and my guitar's volume knob to make changes.

I shitcanned my SLO-100 and Bogner 101b after getting the Landry LS100M. IMO the Satriani JVM is a better amp (for me) as well
