I guess I don't understand people slamming the Fractal stuff so much. Regardless of how people feel about modeling, Cliff, or the unit itself, tons of people on that forum are helpful and I even had one forumite call me to figure out what was wrong with my unit a year ago.

There are not many companies out there that are as accessible as Fractal. I mean, I grew up with Rob Keeley and doubt I could get him on the line if I called the shop. I understand everyone finding the "real vs. more real vs. even more real" hilarious but I have enjoyed having a steady stream of firmware updates with new amps, sounds, etc.

I enjoy amps of all types and am not an Axe-FX fanboi. Just seems like people really get annoyed over this "computer". :)

I think any modeling, profiling, etc. unit gets scrutinized (often enough a bit too much) because of claims of being acurate representations of real amps, and the more realistic one is claimed to be the more scrutiny it will attract IMO. And with the Axe there is also the perception of some of the more cult-like owners of their products based on forum posts.

But of course many great bands who can use nearly any gear they choose have either recently or been using modelers/Axe's in their setups for a while, so it's hard to argue against the products being good and having earned their place.

Some players did well with solid state grinding gear lots of other people couldn't make work.

Dimebag comes to mind.

Whatever works for ya.

I have heard some pretty shitty tones coming from great tube amps on any given Saturday morning at Guitar Center. Not all of the modeler vids do them justice.

The latest batch of Kemper vids have been great. They stand up well to any gear, Fractal or Tube.

Dang, they had to delete posts out of the gear page thread. What did someone post that was so bad in there?
Just some trash talk from a Kemper owner. They are trying to cut down on the Fractal/Kemper wars that just get out of hand every time they happen. Some guys love their Fractals, some guys love their Kempers. Some guys just love to troll. :)

some of these threads bring out the best in people LOL

Some Idiots on his board just threatened a class action lawsuit because he has not released Axe edit yet.

I have yet to see this lawsuit bit of business.

That said, the original release of A2 was marred with the potential of class action due to their taking funds without delivery of the product and due to no public information of release, a complete jab to those who JUST bought the Ultra. It was messy. I was in there somewhat "involved" in it and was really surprised at the infantile attitudes on both sides of the fence. I'm getting along ok over there now with the crew, but there's still a lot of kool aid parties and cultism that I watch out for. Now, as for Cliff and this lawsuit business, he too can act like a child in a petulant frenzy; he's immature, argumentative, childish, and reactionary. Yes, brilliance aside, he's horrible at this inet soap opera shit. I personally can't see how a class action suit could upset anyone unless there were grounds for it. Words mean nothing without meaning. So I think he just wanted to communicate the "drama". Which makes me wonder "why"?

And last but not least, these retorts of "you people, after all the things I've done for you, you have the nerve to threaten me?!?!?!". Okay, that's borderline sociopathic. Look - it goes both ways... You have a huge market base which give you money. Lots of money. With that money comes a product and expectations as to its servicing. It's not like this is a benevolent society offering free meals and medical care to the poor... No, this is straight up capitalism and corporatism. FAS makes a lot of money. A lot. We are reminded of this by the Dumble purchase et al. Then their are the consumers who paid money for the product. A lot of money. And for this money there is a lot of product and a lot of service to the product. Where's the deficiency in this equation? With the Buyers or the Sellers? Simple.

Lastly - post around midnight last night PST... Cliff comes on to say everything about no AE, lawsuits, etc. Also states he's "had to hire a 3rd full time engineer and is now looking for a 4th. That's 4 full time engineers working on AE people!!". Alright... Cool. But you'd think throughout the month of January this notion may have come up?? :dunno: Little bit of foresight as the captain of this ship??

Whatever... I love the product, but man, if there's ever been a company that's riddled with really dysfunctional dynamics, this is it. Crazy.

As with all relationships .The level of frustration is heightened by the lack of communication
I agree announcement of missing target would have been taken better 2 weeks ago instead of the 11th hour.

Totally 100% agree. And this "communication" thing is the SAME thing that has caused issue after issue after issue with FAS.

If they'd simply tell people where they're at along the way, there'd be SO much less drama and intarwebz soap opera bullshit. But instead? "I just bought a dumble, check out what I'm doing for the next firmware upgrade, oh my gawd KPA uses useless internal frequency aliasing, we're out of MFCs, this is how you MIMIC and tone match in the next firmware upgrade...." to "NO THERE'S NO AXE-EDIT BECAUSE WE NEED MORE ENGINEERS YOU SNIVELING PIECES OF SHIT THREATENING ME WITH A LAWSUIT AFTER ALL I'VE DONE FOR YOU!!".

Kinda seems a bit off, no?

Its the same that has been said 100 times . He needs to hire a PR person that does not have a chip or is argumentative
someone like a Sean Halley at line6/avid .they should be giving updates and dealing with this stuff. there need to be a friendly face of Fractal.

Some people can do PR some can't .Cliff is kinda like a surgeon so to speak, Amazingly smart and talented but lacking in bedside manner .

For the Record some company owners are amazing .so its not just that this is an industry standard.

Kyle Rhodes Amazing customer support
Dave @ Baron same thing above and beyond

These guys appreciate customers and you want to buy from them .

Cliff likes to get in there and mix it up with us. I'm glad he does, he's not perfect and that's ok too.
He also seems to like baiting these minions into blowing smoke up his ass   ...that's up to him, but guys don't have to respond and we don't have to get worked up that he's doing that either. But whatever.

Ventura, you get your CLR's yet? I can't wait for your review.

Not yet, I'm expecting to get the call for my CC today though. Will be a while me thinks. Maybe 2 weeks or so between now and the time I get 'em and play 'em. Interesting little bit going on to about the cat who ended up getting a damaged CLR and is now wondering why the drivers are 10" as opposed to 12" and all the related questions and concerns from the masses. I swear, it's a weird world over there man. Blind faith in one way, total conspiracy thinking the other way. Strange.

But ya, I ordered 2 x 25ft gotham cables, I'll be using the 2 actives as my FRFR monitors, but also using them to drive most of the monitor work in my session space (which included Omnisphere, SD2.0, all playback, etc). May as well use 'em to the fullest if they're capable of such. Just gotta get 'em first.

Peace,
Mojo

Where is that at?

It's under amps and cabs. The guy who's CLR showed up bashed measured it, says it was more like 9" or 10". Scotty's in there saying it's a proprietary design that is in fact 12" but due to the enclosure, looks smaller. Another cat just pulled his apart and say it looks like a 9".

I swear man, it's a funny scene...

Yes it is.

Funny as hell.

For the lawsuit there is a old saying. You harvest what you seed.

Nough said.

The woofer in the CLR is a 12" heavy-duty transducer. Two facts are relevant here:

1. The nominal size of a woofer is the basket diameter.
2. The part that moves (and therefore that radiates sound) is much smaller than the woofer's nominal size (for a 12" woofer, the sound-emitting portion of the cone is approximately 9" in diameter).

These facts are apparently lost on a number of armchair loudspeaker experts. DADA, are you paying attention? There will be a test.  When such questions come up on boards in which I participate (even occasionally, as on this one), I respond to them with correct information. I do not participate on the FAS forum, so the speculation and paranoia is free to grow unchecked there.

The design feature of the CLR under consideration here isn't exactly a New Thing. Here's an example of a speaker design from ca. 1950 with a woofer firing into an opening that is smaller than the woofer's nominal size:
