Freidman, Cameron, and modded amps are ridiculously priced!

Its all relative. $71k / year in NYC doesn't buy nearly as much as it does in Iowa.

I make 24k a year as a pro musician, and I bought a Friedman modded Marshall. Not sure what that makes me?

Homeless when you and your girlfriend split?

Nope, I got parents :). Actually, I do a pretty good job of managing my money; even got some in the bank. I have some nice gear, and I actually play it, so that sort of separates my from the usual formite. I'm never going to make a ton of $, but I'm much happier playing music all day.
The average 50 yr old forumite played out in the 80's and now has a real job.

I survived the 80's and don't like most music past 1990.

I have no desire to play what they call "music" nowdays ...

What's a real job exactly? And how can you not like music past 1990? So much has happened since then. If you look hard enough, I'm sure you'll find stuff you like. Discounting a quarter century is silly.

I don't like any sunglasses past 1993!!

Slime lens M Frames or die!!!

71k is kinda meh to be honest.
Wow.....thats about 20K more then I make a year. :aww:
Guess I am one of the poor bastards on the forum.

+1

When I recently nudged just over 50 on my W2 it took me by surprise because as a kid I used to think that was rich man's territory and it sure doesn't feel that way in my day to day life. I could finance an expensive amp and pay it off (12-18 No interest baby), no problem but the guys on here who seem to be doing regular purchases with these high end brands must be doing pretty good
I still rent a regular apartment with my Wife and there's no way we could buy a house where we live. If we weren't moving to a cheap part of the country soon I never would have thought to become homeowner.

I think a lot of amps are over priced new.... that's why if you watch the classifieds, you'll find amps in the 1-2k range which I think is quite reasonable.

71,000$ a year is also not THAT much is it? If you have a mortgage, car payment, kids etc etc.... that doesn't get you very much left over for 5k amps. That's my perspective anyway..

Umh actually that is a very good respectable income that is wayyyy over the national average in the US. Not sure what you are making in Canada but the original poster is doing more than ok.

I guess so.. or your money takes you much further in the states. I'm not passing judgement on what people's salaries are, I am pointing out as others have that where you live in addition to the other responsibilities or "overhead" you might have, might actually have you earning less when it comes to the cash you can actually spend on fun shit. So don't worry about it, not starting a pissing match comparing dicks here.

lol yeah, 70k isn't that much. But also depends on where you live.

In any event, I agree most amps—hell most of anything really—is overpriced. But price is set by demand for the most part.

9-5 Monday thru Friday daycare for two kids will run you about $25,000 per year.

There are Cameron modded amps for sale here cheap. One in $1650 in the classifieds, bumped today.

Another idiot bashing a brand and can't even read the fucking classifieds...

Fuck you, dickhead. Still overpriced.

Just because not everyone can afford them doesn't mean they're overpriced bud. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Friedman for the new price. Sorry if they're out of your reach

I make $71,000 a year. Sorry to break it to you. I'm sure you're not at that level.

I didn't start a troll thread, nor did I come hear to be insulted.

Damn, what do you do??

Your other option is to get a price on a used Marshall, get a quote for the mod work + shipping, factor in lead time and availability of the amp model, then see if you come out ahead of the modded used amps. Otherwise you're partly paying for the "convenience" of them being available now.

This is a good time to buy as the prices are WAY down what they were a couple years ago. Camerons and Friedmans were easily 2-2500..now 1600 is pretty common price, after the seller realizes he's not selling them for 2k or more..

I think it's important to recognize what people are asking and what they are getting are two different things...

If you wanna play you gotta pay !!!
I have Bogners they were not cheap but I really like the tone they put in my ears !!
I also think I got good deals on both I bought them used .
New Ecstacys are really spendy !!!
I must say I was blown away by a fellow rig talker who has a couple vtm 120's
One modded and one stock . They sounded great and can be had cheap !!
