I think a lot of amps are over priced new.... that's why if you watch the classifieds, you'll find amps in the 1-2k range which I think is quite reasonable.

71,000$ a year is also not THAT much is it? If you have a mortgage, car payment, kids etc etc.... that doesn't get you very much left over for 5k amps. That's my perspective anyway..
fixed because Rupe's comment under me is right, no need to share my income

Bragging about/sharing your income, even to make a point, shows a complete lack of class and maturity...as does complaining about the price of something that is actually selling. Marketing 101...if all units are currently being moved, it may in fact be under priced, but it sure as hell isn't over priced.

I always thought that was the cardinal rule about discussing jobs/current employment. If you can afford it and you feel it's worth it; go for it. I have a family and don't know if I could justify a $3000 amp for just gigging a few times a month in a local cover band. If you can justify it and can afford it; go for it.

You're looking for class and maturity in a room full of people who, in their adulthood still idolize men in makeup and zebra print spandex?

Good luck.

To be fair, I'd say a lot more work goes into a modded amp build than quite a few guitars on the market that are priced even higher.

To the op:

Have you plugged in to any of these amps?

I haven't but am excited to try these amps someday.

I understand the OP's logic for starting this thread. It's the same logic that I apply to other stuff that I want (newer truck, replacing the old roof, new sneakers) but can't/don't want to make happen due to the price tag. But I also understand that patience and timing are old friends. Prices fluctuate in a free market all the time, for everything. So when the opportunity door opens, don't walk thru it, jump. Publicly complaining about it does nothing but make you forget about your old friends, patience & timing.

Now, eat the rest of your vegetables and Uncle John will play you to sleep with his LP replica and Soldano-modded Bassman.

Funniest comment in this thread.... but seriously, why do you think Lynch has all that signature gear that he doesn't play? So that he can scrape together the funds for a few soldanos and friedmans to put back stage under a blanket. It all makes sense now!

I make 24k a year as a pro musician, and I bought a Friedman modded Marshall. Not sure what that makes me?

9-5 Monday thru Friday daycare for two kids will run you about $25,000 per year.

no kids, no wife
If u make 71K and ur biggest problem is a 3K or 4K amp you have 1st world problems.

Go visit someone in a nursing home or help a kid with cancer.
Word...

Somehow, you usually take the words right out of my mouth on most of your posts when these threads de-rail Rupe......

It makes you a working musician that needs the tools of the trade. :)
Nothing wrong with that.
Your investment helps to make you money.

OP,

I wouldn't pay that much for an amp either.
But that's my choice. To me those prices are not worth it, but for enough people they are willing to pay for those tones, so that makes those amps worth that much. If someone is willing to pay those prices, then the product is priced correctly.
If they don't sell at those prices, then they would be "over priced", or over what the market will pay.

My goal is to get a tone I like without spending over $1000 for the amp.
So far I've got a working tone, and luckily got my amp for a bit less than half of it's usual $1200 selling price.
I wouldn't pay over that because I'm not a working musician, so the return on investment/ROI isn't worth it for me.
I may get one of those type amps one day just to hear and feel what they are about...maybe. :)

I think these amps are expensive because
1 they aren't mass produced , so difficult to get hold of
2 don't come up for sale as often
3 sound better than stock usually
4 sometimes to have the mods people have to wait months for an order
5 hold value better if a well known person has done it

Component wise I'm sure it's not worth the money , your paying for that moders experience and reputation of tone .

Free market pricing, people will pay what it's worth to them.

+1 here. Free markets. Thankfully 6505's are there for the picking... Cheap

Best to spill all of your financials & personal information in order to be as transparent as possible when talking about important gear.

Who gives a shit how much one makes. :lame: :jerkit: :jerkit: :jerkit: If they are willing to pay for a Cameron or Friedman so be it. Everyone has different priorities. It is only a frikin amp!!!

As awesome as this thread has become, this is where it all started.

No.

There are Cameron modded amps for sale here cheap. One in $1650 in the classifieds, bumped today.

Another idiot bashing a brand and can't even read the fucking classifieds...

Guy makes a post saying these amps are rediculously over priced and he is an idiot and he is also bashing.

Both harsh accusations. I would get pissed and defensive as well.

I also think they are overpriced. Its supply and demand as most know.

That is why I will never buy anything new ever again. I learned that lesson with an Ibanez that cost me $1,500 and ended up being a peice of shit that I barely got $900 for when I sold it. I learned that lesson again when I bought a new car.

I am a used kind of guy for these reasons. If you are rich and dont give a fuck or single and have no obligations then you can buy whatever you want and not care I suppose. Or if you just must have that tone then you can chub up and spare the change.

I also think many amps are over priced. $4k for a Diezel, $3k for a Bogner.

That doesn't mean that statement is meant to bash them. I think they are some of the best amps ever made and only say they are over priced because I want them badly and can not afford them :D wisely.

I myself have a family and a mortgage, a car and lots of fucking bills. I will never be a "pro" musician for that reason.

There was a time where I wish I did, sometimes still do. But I am not going to take a huge paycut and screw my family over like that.

If you are a working musician and not making it "big" or not making alot of money (to me over 50k/annual is alot of money for playing music) then do not have kids, do not get married and you should be ok.

The only thing I would recommend is to start some kind of a savings plan now because when you are 65 years old, you wont be making the same amount of money packing in the senior homes with your rock bands

And I am assuming you are not paying SSI or filing taxes correctly
