Picked up an iRig Pre over the weekend, as I always thought it'd be cool to record legit audio through my smartphone. Never wanted to go through the hassle of syncing separate Audio/Video for 1 minute amp clips, so this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm constantly picking up and flipping new amps, and making little demo videos for my gear nerd buddies or posting in forums or FB groups, but always thought cell phone audio didn't let the amps shine through.

Hooked it up last night and made my first recording using my new Friedman Runt 50 into my Blue Voodoo V30 cab, SM57 straight on the speaker where the dust cap meets the cone. Came out pretty damn good, I thought. Cool little tool for quickly recording riff ideas as well.

That thing sounds pretty good for what it is.. also a great idea as I was just thinking the other day, do I feel like always setting up mic pre into interface into DAW etcetc. These days I have zero time with a toddler and baby and something like that will def. do an amp more justice than a phone clip where everything essentially sounds compressed, the same, and "good". Hardly worth going on when making a decision about gear from an in the room phone clip.

I also like that it looks like you are jammed in a corner of your basement which is where I also find myself... right near one of the water drains and with electrical and water runs above. Take what I can get !

Sounds killer man! Oh, and that’s my exact recording chain when I make clips. It’s super simple and I think they come out pretty good.

I had one of those but made the mistake of buying a so called "demo" which didn't work so I returned it.

Nice job, I bet you'll get a lot of use out of the iRig Pre.

edit: just to clarify, the broken demo was an iRig Pre, not a Friedman.

The Runt is a lovely sounding amp. I just wished it had some bass!

Does the irig pre bypass the onboard iphone mic while using the camera app? Can't seem to find that info anywhere...I'm considering getting one but don't want to have use a separate app for audio and then sync with video. Thinking it does based on OP. Thanks!

I don’t have the iRig pre but the iRig HD 2 and the iRig Pro Duo I have bypass the iPhone mic when the iRig is connected to the phone, audio is in sync with the video, no secondary app is needed for matching the audio with video. I use the same set up for recording play through videos for a band mate without having to spend extra time editing and syncing audio/video
