This board is much sweeter - high in calories...tweed":3qnbxz4j said:Outstanding!!!![]()
But how many calories is this new red swirl board compared to the old one?![]()

Believe me, I do too. It is cool to have something to report/show...mysticaxe":bhe4h1sm said:2 things:
1. I love when this thread pops up to the top. Great idea/job/project!!!
Right now that Hiwatt style board is sitting on my desk half filled with components that have not been soldered... Honestly, I should have realized I didn't have enough space just by counting up components on the schematics, but I got a little ahead of myself. I might be able to figure out some messy way of doing this, but the bottom line is I want an elegant, clean, easy to understand board layout and the only way to achieve all that is to go custom. I want this board to be easy to mod and repair as necessary and with a convoluted layout - forget it. What I'm doing now is a bit painful and time-consuming and takes me away from actual soldering, but in the end, this will be a better amp in a variety of ways. Plus some really cool pro amp builders have volunteered to look over my layout and give me feedback on wiring layouts etc. so I can minimize noise... Cool!mysticaxe":bhe4h1sm said:2. Steve is a far more patient and deliberate man than I am. The frustration of trying to lay things out only to find out I didn't have enough space would have resulted in a string of expletives before I thought about how to "fix" the problem... In fact, I may have actually had a few things soldered in place before I realized my mistake/dilemma...
I believe that is the exact reaction I was going for!Geoff J":2c3osfq2 said:Yo Steve - I am stunned, scared, and inspired all at the same time regarding your build !
Yes we do! I did turn you on to Carl...Geoff J":2c3osfq2 said:Hey, don't we have a friend, Carl E. in common ?
I think you were the one who turned me on to modding my mojave because of his work on yours?
Simple answer is no, he hasn't... Longer answer follows:Geoff J":2c3osfq2 said:If so, has he had an eye on this project?
Thanks and excellent input on the PPIMV. I will definitely change the name for the production units...stratotone":2kwkgvc6 said:Steve - awesome job! Only suggestion I have is to rename the PPIMV on the back... I get it, I'm sure most guys who build/mod amps get it, but joe the amp consumer probably wouldn't. Give it a cool name but include 'master volume' or somesuch in there. Most people who are going to buy an amp don't know what the heck a Post Phase Inverter Master Volume means anyways![]()
I think this is really the only way to get this right and will also be a valuable contribution to the open source element. It is a lot easier to wire up an amp to a detailed layout than a schematic, even if the board is already drilled and turrets installed. Good heads up on the Weber books as well...stratotone":2kwkgvc6 said:Nice that you're going to do a layout on paper before commiting the amp to it - as my dad always said, measure twice cut once! Some of the Gerald Weber books have some great info on doing layout for low noise and stability... some of his info is dumbed down to a great degree but there are some good ideas buried in there too.

How are things going with your project ?

I had some things going on over the last couple months (ran a marathon and heavy day job commitments) that limited my available time to work on this project, but I'm back on track now and working on my layout. I should have new progress posts in the next couple of weeks... I expect a tweaked prototype done by late fall...
Steve
Ok, as long as you take over my house payment. Whaddaya say? It'll be done in a month then...dstroud":37hb52rn said:sah5150":37hb52rn said:Hey guys!

Nope. Here is some progress on my layout though:Geoff J":2rm0hmbi said:Sweet - out of curiosity are you incorporating any of the Caswell mods ? (#39 in particular?)
