Building killer gear.

I got a Deliverance 2x12 loaded with Fanes today.

We just got married so I need more time to fully realize things, but the Fane F70s sound amazing in the 2x12.

Oh... and I got to spend some time with the GP/DI today, and now I need it. need. it.

I'm no good when it comes to colorful anecdotes describing sound but what I can say is there are loads of great tones in this little box. It sounded incredible both through headphones and plugged directly into a 1x12 cab. The feel and responsiveness are superb.

I'll be buying one as soon as they're available because it will give me all I need for direct recording... and then some.

Very nice, Bob!
Last week, I tried out a hiwatt cabinet with Fane F70 speakers and it sounded really, really good…

Never disappointed with anything I bought from VHT/Fryette over the years. He's a mad man.

Very cool Bob...
How similar or different is the speakers compared with your 4x12 ?

I'm on the fence between saving up another 200 bucks and picking up a 212 FatBottom with F70s or saving up another 7 hundred and picking up a used two channel Peters amp from one of our fellow rig-talkers. Or buying another loop switcher and an isolated power distributor. It's a big fence...

I wonder if a Valvulator + Power Station would be as good as having one of their amps. It would certainly be cheaper.

They're very similar and very different.

But seriously, there is a lot of common ground. I stink at describing differences plus, the cab sounds far different than the 4x12 and the Fanes aren't broken in so at the moment I'd say the Fanes are a bit crisper on the top end and there's a subtle difference in the mids that I can't describe at the moment (need more time with the cab), but it's not a bad different. The overdrive/distortion characteristics are slightly different too. not sure how to describe that one either. Much of the differences are subtle, but audible.

I'm very much looking forward to getting these speakers broken in because I can definitely hear them needing to loosen up. Once broken in I'm suspecting the difference between the two will be more apparent.

Part of what makes it difficult is that the cabs are very different sounding so it's tough to know the exact effect this has on the sound purely from the cab and also the affect it has on the way the speakers themselves respond.

All said, I'm glad I went with the Fanes...

"As good" is a matter of taste. There's a lot going on in the Fryette amps that make the sum of the sound you get so while I have no doubt that it would sound fantastic, but it's not going to be a Deliverance, UL, etc.

Coincidentally, however, I was thinking along a similar line in that the two would probably be a great live backup along side the numerous other uses of each device alone.

I know you're already aware of Fryette's quality but this thing just blew my doors off. You will not be dissappointed.

The WS6 amp looks to be a 2001 model which was the swan song for that particular amp from days gone by powered by LS1 tubes and had forced air induction to keep the LS1 tubes cool while providing extra wattage.

There is one by my son's soccer field and it reminds me of you every time I drive by it.

Hope is all well.

Not necessarily, an used D60 head would be cheaper than a GPDI + PS setup.
