See that's actually my primary objection to it. If there was a way to store/recall the equivalent of the knob position (via a digital potentiometer or hell automation like the X99 used or even some LDR bullshit) it would be 10x more useful.
The x99 did presets in the best way in my opinion. Not only was it the coolest looking, but it’s literally just a normal preamp with stepper motors turning the pots for you, so it’s 100% a functional preamp even if the digital portion dies and is unrepairable.

And IIRC it was a fairly common type of automation (for consoles etc.), so it was probably repairable as a one-off even if there was some sort of problem.

It's a great unit. Damn shame I can't find one at any sort of even semi-reasonable price.
 
If I understand correctly the GEQ, IR and voice switches are the only things that are controlled digital.

The rest is analog.
