Looking at a Fuchs mantis 120 watt head, anyone know much about these amps. I can’t find much info on them

that's the sig model for some guy right?...can't remember. it was his 1st foray into high gain right? always heard the build quality and tonez were top notch on his other products but the mantis always stayed under the radar....

edit-Jack Frost. I believe the mantis started out as his sig model.

Don’t wanna come off harsh, but the Mantis was honestly one of the worst sounding high gain amps I’ve played. I remember it being dark, loose, somewhat muddy and totally lacking the aggression and attack needed for metal and more aggressive styles of rock. His other amps like the ODS’s and Trainwreck style ones are good amps (but not amazing). I think he has a decent feel for that kinda stuff, but is just not at all a metal guy and doesn’t really get what we’re going for

Yes it was called the frost and then the mantis later

gotcha...I was trying to remember. at one time I was gonna snag one of his ods models. that's why I kinda remembered some of that stuff.

I looked into them pretty hard, but ultimately passed. High gain isn't Andy's forte. It wasn't bad sounding or anything. It's that there are a lot of amps that sound much better if you're going high gain

I did end up getting the Fuchs , to me it sounds a lot like a older Marshall jmp on the low gain ch, the higher gain ch has a more scooped tone. The amp with a fortin grind sounds great. The build quality is great

good deal. I've always been curious about them. clip would be awesome...hinthint...

Shane Gibson use to endorse their amp... Amazing guitarist Shane Gibson was... But unfortunately he passed ....that sucks!!

Congrats on the Fuchs. Personally I found it fell in a weird area that wasn't aggressive enough for modern metal and also missed the mark on less aggressive styles of hard & classic rock; other amps did it better. I actually like the Train II best of Fuchs amps. It works well for that Trainwreck sound and has enough hair to make it into 80's metal when you crank it. But who cares what I think. If the Mantis works for you and inspires you to play then that's what matters and it's a great amp. And regardless of what anyone thinks about how any of his amps sound, one thing that has always been consistent is the superior build quality.

I think Jack Frost is the guy that robbed several people on the mts forum. Said he had all these custom modules and a custom Randall head.

Some guy on the forum said he seen him in a music store. Can of beer in one pocket cargo shorts. And carrying a pistol.
Not making it up. I didn’t see him. But the guy that posted it also got ripped off.

I wonder what was in his other pockets..?
coming into the music store packin’, huh?
You better tell him to keep his mask on!
If I would have been in that music store that afternoon Mailman, I’d a vibed it with him golden,
followed by a beefy f’n Wedgy’ in the lobby &
skirted’ his ‘donk right the f*ck outta there.

Tried one for 45 minutes and yes, I too had no use for it…at all.
The guy who had just purchased it was dying for me to try it out, he was so pleased with it, but he did not play a hard rock/metal style.
He set it up many different ways and none of them came anything close to what I wanted to hear for a good tight chunky heavy tone.
I came straight home, immediately fired up the Larry Dino and breathed a huge sigh of satisfaction and contentment.
So beautiful.

I know the feeling

I know the feeling very, very well. Even when I try out an amp that is quite good, as soon as I try to compare it to my dino, any comparison is laughable.

I've had this experience with a couple of Friedman's and ENGLs.

Jack Frost is a killer musician, but the mantis I tried was very loose and just didn't have "it."

Maybe it's much better with a boost?

I've actually heard decent things about them in the past but I've never even seen one in person

Shane was a beast . He had cool lessons on the old Chops From Hell site . He also toured with Korn when Head quit . He was great RIP

I'm gonna have to stop by and check this unit out.
