I used to love the guy but that was absolutely pathetic. :aww:

The gloves? That's just stupid. A guitar player that wears gloves?

he needs to wear gloves in case he runs across a set of weights and needs to crank out a quick set. you never know where there might be a total gym or stack of dumbbells :jerkit:

hopefully the guy who bought that guitar is a shitty player. otherwise, he may make george look bad when they "jam" together.

I'd rather listen to a drano-snorting monkey play the triangle

that sonic stupidity is so bad it might just become the latest hot new fad in a stream of crappy music

This has been an on-going debate here for quite some time. Don't know too many here who don't appreciate George in his hay-day and his overall contribution to the guitar. Lately though, we're hard-pressed to find him bringing it, tone wise or technique wise. I believe he still has it in him, but lately he's going through a phase, and its kinda hard to defend his guitar-heroism.
Jimmie

Lately? A phase?

I'm a big fan of Lynch but it's becoming pathetic. I saw him several times the last couple of years and he always sounded and played like shit. Couple of years ago, he was at the MusikMesse and playing with backing tracks. We walked out after 15 minutes the 1st day and after 5 minutes the second day. He was THAT bad and 4-5 of us are big GL fans.

I got to admit in 89' i was wearing this stuff on stage, but wouldn't be caught dead doing it today.

He may be exploring new territory or just trying to keep it simple. I remember when Hamster said he was stripping things down to basic pentatonic licks so kids could play his leads..... Maybe he is making it accessible to the kids. ?

Either way, GL has some great recorded work out there that still inspires. Take the good and leave the rest. I hope people in my life do the same thing for me.

FYI, here is the same head being played about an hour before the Lynch footage was shot.

When I first heard this, I thought it was one of the "shreds" parodies.
LOL...I was going to say the same thing -- St. Sanders would have been proud.

Bronco,

Who is your avatar? Damn!

The playing was bad but I listened to it a second time and there were some cool little licks in there that cut through so it isn't "horrible" until the big stretch tapping. Anyway even worse than GL wearing gloves is the dude (I think one of his amp techs/equipment techs) who also seems to be wearing the gloves! Maybe they are on to something.. or just got back from a work out.

As for the aging thing.. GL seems to be a guy that refuses to age. A total midlife crisis type of guy. Guarantee he cycles roids to keep the testosterone levels high and for workout recovery. As someone else said, he has probably always suffered from some type of image problem or self esteem problem on some levels. All this skull and bones shit and i'm a badass LA cowboy stuff (who is part native) seems to be him compensating for not wanting to age like a normal person. Some people by sports cars.. GL sticks to GH, weights, and low gain

Thanks for sharing the vids.

He def sounded better on That Metal Show but that was a different kind of production and he used.....................gain.

Never really understood the gloves.

Also, isn't George like 60 years old?? It's not that big of a stretch for someone who was a top-notch player 25 years ago to lose some chops in that amount of time.

Do you think George is hooked on pills?

10 years ago I would have laughed but today?

Maybe he has some medical issue.

There's something to be said about illusion. 25-30 years ago we didn't have YT. We never got to see the human part of our heros. I have seen ALL of my heros on YT screwing up and sounding HORRIBLE. In the 70's and 80's we had albums with pictures(maybe), our heros sounded perfect on record. When we went to see them live we were young, excited and there was no instant replay at home on YT to pick them apart.

Now we see them noodling and farting around...like we do in our basements or bedrooms. Then because they kinda sound like us...humans, we nail them to the cross.

I'm almost 50yrs old. I struggle with 10 pounds over my desired weight, have a hard time sticking to a workout schedule, my hair is thinner. My fucking hands, elbows and back hurt because of 30 yrs of gigging lifting racks and amps and cabs and playing too much. Maybe the guy wears gloves because his hands hurt...mine hurt and I've thought what the hell can I do about this pain.

I've met George at NAMM 2 years ago, he was soft spoken and seemed like a pretty nice guy. He looked incredibly physically fit for his age. I hope I can look that fit..minius the tan (but he does live in Arizona).

I agree, his playing doesn't sound like what he was...or maybe he doesn't sound like what he is capable of doing. People are funny, if he played like he used too we would all complain that he sounds just like he always has and hasn't expanded his horizons.

Hockey players that were amazing 30 years ago wouldn't last a shift on the ice with the players of today if they were the same age and skill level as they were. Things evolve, people build a better mouse trap.
I wish George would stick to what he did, because what he did was amazing. Please George more gain :).

I know there are players that have evolved and still sound amazing, however I have seen on YT many of those players screw up pretty bad....sometimes it gives me hope..lol.

Sometimes I think it's too bad the mystique has left the industry...everything is on the table now in plain view...must make for a nervous stomach for these "Rock Stars".

Wow, that is the most well thought out best written post I have seen in a long time. I agree with Mark.

Lynch has always been a choppy player anyway.. he rarel yplayed anything like the album if you listen to him play on some of the live dokken stuff now on youtube. He drowned things in verb and delay and you can definitely hear mistakes in 87 as much as you can now. The diff now is that i guess he just noodles and there is nobody at the sound board to cut and paste bits and peices together to make the masterpeice.

Never cared for Lynch back in the day...and from what I've been seeing of him lately I care even less. :D
