I was expecting an actual ghost on Swedish TV. Disappointed.

Lol That's what I thought when I opened it! haha...

What's even funnier than the band is all the hating on it!

We are all musicians. This is how they choose to express themselves. Fucking hilarious expending energy on disliking it so much...

Wanted one of those Gibson RD's my whole life too!

^this. I had the great joy to record with one two summers ago while at a music residency in Ohio. fucking great guitar. one of the best I've ever played.

LOL - need I say more? Are they in the FBI witness protection plan and need to hide their voices too? I'm sorry but these guys are such a farce. They offend my sense of tight leather pants, hair spray, and dudes that looked like chicks who could actually rip on their instruments.

oh, because that wasn't a farce AT ALL. Don't get me wrong, I think Ghost are a rip-off band making a mockery of things other folks did much better long before them. I'm actually not convinced they aren't an intentional parody like Gwar or Green Jello.

They definitely know what they are doing, and how they appear. I think you compare them to all the wrong bands. They appear more in the vein of some of the old Italian bands like Paul Chain and Death SS, which for me is AWESOME.
Yeah, if you are only into sunset strip or brOOtz, this isn't for you. But if you are into more underground stuff in the early 80's style doom/heavy metal, then you are probably more likely to like it. Think Warlord, Trouble with a mix of Coven.

That. I love Trouble's older music, and I like the different types of tones used even though I also like a lot of tight modern high gain, as well. 8)

I love some good technical playing such as by Al DiMeola, Paul Gilbert, Cacophony, Protest the Hero, etc., but I can get just as much into something more simple or even sloppy like a lot of oldschool punk and some simpler classic rock. I don't go to those things when I'm wanting to hear some Yngwie, though, or vice versa. :D

The only person who ever made any sense while talking about the satanic bible was King Diamond and even there, he made it sound a little gimmicky.

Sometimes I wonder if King Diamond actually meant the satanic stuff to sound a little gimmicky- because he's agnostic than anything. I recall a quote from him saying "I don't believe in heaven or hell. I believe in a place called Beyond..."

naw, i love MF and KD, way into early doom, even similarly theatrical epic doom like Candlemass, I'm super into proto-metal, etc, etc. etc. I like a couple of Ghost's songs, but there's something about them that strikes me as deeply insincere, and it bugs me. Obviously, King Diamond is super over the top, but I love it. Ghost seem to me to be insincere about making music. Don't ask me to put my finger on why, I don't think I can. at least not until I've had some coffee. :D

I probably am comparing them to the wrong genre then... I am a KD fan and although it can get silly at times and theatrical, the guitar riffing is off the charts and the drumming was always top notch.

I tried listening to a bunch of their tunes, and I only really thought that Ritual was catchy... only so because it reminded me of a merciful fate song.

^ I think you're pretty right on. Same thing with Candlemass...those dudes can fucking PLAY. Also, they completely win on the ridiculous evil lyrics.

I find it odd these guys are even considered "metal" and on Metal Injection. Their theatrics fit the metal mold, but the music is waaaay off the metal mark. Schlep rock at best.

I saw Ghost with Mastodon and Opeth last year and Ghost absolutely stole the show. I see where the comparisons to KD and MF come in but musically, they are not similar in the slightest. I really enjoy listening to Ghost. The whole satan worshiping and the costumes...that's their deal...much like King Diamond had grandma and Missy on stage for his tours.

@dooredge

Who cares whats it's considered? Lot's of the late 70's NWOBH bands aren't either packing distortion and girth to make Slipknot or whatever happy, but they still are considered metal. *true metal* mind you.

Another awesome swedish act with a undefined sound.

Sounds like Ozzy joined Iron Maiden. a little dated for me but much easier to hear than Ghost.

they are alright. the singer is just average. I think King Diamond is better at the "image metal" stuff

I agree.. they are lightyears from MF and KD.. Ill pull that back. None comes close to the awesomeness of the king.

Enjoy their stuff nonetheless.

Check out these dutchmen:

They made me think of this

I just don't get it. The music is pretty primitive, the singer lacking, and the songs are more pop than metal. The whole devil worship and masks are like a bad scene from a Jack Black movie. But at least Jack Black's movies are somewhat entertaining. If it sails your ship, my blessings, but I don't want any more of them.

Not my cup of tea really, but I'm a firm believer that polarizing music is music that's doing something right... so, more power to 'em.

^^ That's the truth regardless of opion of the band.

My buddy told me a rumor that one of the "cells" of Ghost is also an In Flames member.
