Ha ha ha! I love this. Who has heard of these?

I've seen some of the Gov. series here and there on reverb. The colors are cool but I've never played one so don't know how good it is overall. Still the explorers and Vs have a cool look with the satin finish drab colors. I like white/cream binding on my pauls and sgs though.

I don't want to buy it necessarily to play it -- rather to commemorate it -- because I think it's only tribute series quality. I remember what the gov did to Gibson and it was infuriating, so it's quite amusing. I kind of agree though. Black hardware isn't as sexy on a Les Paul. God what I'd do to own a 59 VOS.

^What am I missing here? What does that picture have to do with a Gov't Series or a '59?

The point was that I thought the 59 series was cool. Then I responded to GOHOINC's comments about the drab look and questionable quality of the model saying that I wouldn't buy it because it's high quality but just to commemorate the government tyranny Gibson stood up against... but, if I were to buy a Les Paul that I really wanted to play and looks sexy, the 59 would be it.

The government raids cleared out all Gibson's old stock wood.
Twice IIRC?

Edited/ I stand corrected.

Now would be the time to support them. Just did a bunch of reading.

Scary stuff... SMH.

I think what he meant was that the gold top you posted is a 57.

That picture isn't an R9 though? That's what I didn't get. "59" pretty much always refers to a Burst. Based on the shade of gold it doesn't even look like an R7 (although it could be the lighting). I'm not sure what it is, or how it is related, that's why I was confused.

It was supposed to read "... or this" but I somehow deleted the ellipses when I pasted the image URL. Yes a 59 VOS *or* a 57 reissue goldtop. That's all beside the point anyway. Just responding saying that I agree the quality isn't all there, but the government model would be cool to own. I'd just much rather have the aforementioned if I were buying one to play.

Don't look past R8s if you're ever serious about buying one. Most people think those are the best value among Historics. And the newer ones (2013 or so - currrent) are lighter, have some decent flame, and have necks that are basically the same size as an R9. Some you'd have a hard time identifying without looking at the serial number. You won't get AS big of tops, but IMO those don't look as authentic anyway.

Thanks man. I'll check them out.
