Anything goes. I'm not looking for an amp, but I'd be nice to know what to look out for, if given the opportunity.

Some I think are cool:

Gibson L5 Lab Series: Solid state, but from what I can hear on King's X albums, they sound great! Full and crunchy, but super clear and articulate. It's perfect for Tabors rhythm style with lots of open and arpeggiated stuff IMO. I've seen them used for $200-$300. One day...

Vox AC4TV: I tried one this morning, sounded REALLY good for what it is IMO. Great sweet clean tone with just a touch of overdrive. I love it. The switchable wattage is cool too. 1/4 watt, 1 watt, and 4 watts of power.

Randall RG ES: From what I can see, Lynch and Amir Derakh both used them at one point, and they sounds pretty huge, especially on Rough Cutt's first album (I assume it was used here?).

Garnet tube amps are pretty plentiful here in Canada. I see them all the time on Kijiji and Craigslist ranging from $100-$500. Canada's Marshall?

Any more you guys?

Peavey Ultra....
Stay away from that Randall RG ES.

I owned one and you basically had to run a distorion pedal in it.
The amps distortion sucked really bad from what I remember.

Regarding the Randall, I've heard that you can pull the treble knob to get more gain.

Peavey Ultra . I was boned out of a local deal on that amp by some prick on HC. He backed out, after we made a deal, and he was the one that posted the ad up and was waiting on a sale for a pretty long time. He backed out AFTER he had said some shit about me on HC too :gethim:, but I digress, that amp reminds me of a Mark-era boogie, for a third of the price.

Carvin Legacy
Peavey Ultra, VTM, Prowler, Bravo
Laney AOR
Ampeg Jet

and those are just the tube amps.

I owned the Ultra and in my experience, it is not even close to a Mark III. But it's still a great amp for the money. Sturdy as hell, too.

Carvin MTS (best bang for buck IMO)
Marshall MG (new ones aren't bad at all)
Peavey classic 30 or 50
Line 6 Flextone II if you're not too picky

Thats why I hate going off clips for the most part. The camera just compresses everything and hard to get the real tone. Just a 'close feel'....
I heard a Mark III blue stripe in person and it KILLED!
never heard the Peavey Ultra. Some say it sounds like the original 5150??
But I see the Peaveys go for a few hundred bucks so really cant go wrong. ;)

Ampeg VH140C. Chorus, Reverb, tons of gain and pretty decent cleans.

Peavey FTW
5150
Triple XXX
Ultra XXL

+1. If I were into Death Metal and played that kind of music, I'd get a 6505 and be done with it. That amp has a mid grind like no other. The old VTMs were killer too.

New amps, I like the Carvins. The Legacy's are great sounding and well built.
I also think the Blackstars are cool too.

Redbear MK60 / 120
Peavey VTM
Carvin X100B
Peavey 5150
Roland JC120 / others in the series.

Crate Blackheart series. I'm serious!
I was really surprised by one I played for a studio thingy for one of my bands. Sounded great, I had major doubts.
