carvin x series amps. decent cleans.. takes pedals well.. switchable effects loop. od isn't the greatest on the old ones.. pedals take care of that. not sure about the re-issues. haven't tried one.
laney aor. chassis mounted sockets.. decently wired and layed out. VERY picky about pre-amp tubes because of the cascading gain.
yamaha g series amps. old ss unit designed by paul rivera back in the late 70's. decent cleans especially good with single coils. doesn't crunch well at all but takes pedals well. global parametric eq makes it easy to find a sweet spot. there's also a dial labeled "Q" in the parametric section which is a sort of "hard knee-soft knee" compressor. no loop.
Here are some of my favorites around or under the $500 USD mark:
- Fender SF Bandmaster
- Fender SF Bandmaster Reverb
- Fender SF Bassman
- Sovtek Mig 60
- Fender BF or SF champ
I am also really curious about this new Marshall Class5. Looks like a fun little amp. I am just worried that if I get one, it will not get used much, which was the case with my BF Champ.
Peavey VTM for the win. It's a one channel modded JCM800 circuit... I see them time to time for around $200. For an all tube amp, it's a stooopid deal. Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger was recorded with these.

ADA MP-1 is one of the best bargins I see at usually around $200.
Run it into a cheap power amp or the return of an amps effects loop and your ready to rock.
