Got a temp ban on TGP

Yeah, for Motown or Blues. Doesn't work very well in many other genres.

I think Steve Harris/Iron Maiden has been using the P Bass/Flatwound formula since way back. At least part of it has to be the player's physical approach to the instrument. That said, P Bass with flats isn't what I'd reach for when I wanted a piano-like, percussive bass tone.

Flats feel good on your fingers.

As much of a Harris fan as I am, and I am, his tone isn’t something I ever strived to emulate. Geezer Butler favored dead rounds. It’s hard to judge his tone by the same parameters though since all that old sabbath is like a step and a half down.

McCartney used flats on the Ric and the Hofner. Nothing special about his tone either. As is almost always the case the player makes it sound good regardless of the minutae.

It’s also worth mentioning that gear and mixing techniques can overcome the disadvantages of trying to use flat wound strings for heavy music in a live band situation. For most amateur level bands it’s gonna be difficult to sit well in a stage mix using flats and a P bass for let’s say RATM or AIC, Deftones, Chevelle, STP and on and on.

I don’t like P basses mostly because the necks feel like a baseball bat sawed in half longways. There are other basses that can do the P bass thing equally as well as a P bass. Spector NS2 for example. Or even some J basses.

My idea of great tone on a bass is more in line with say Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Mike Starr, Robert DeLeo, John Paul Jones, etc.

As far as strings go I like brand new Roto 66 on the Ric and D’Addario ELX 190s on the Spector.

If I was considering buying something from you, like most people, I would do some research. If I found those posts, which were only an example from one day, I'd probably go to someone else. And although I agree with you on the topic of deportation, I don't hate all of the mothers and children especially that are here by association. And it doesn't really matter what subforum it is in. It is still public. Therefore, as a Sales Representative of Providence Cables, I personally would be more careful. That, and it is a bad look for Rig-Talk, IMO, to be associated with someone who seems to not give a shit and was granted access to his own subforum in the Manufacturers section.
