Gotoh Trems?

Ive had to replace OFRs on my guitars throughout the years as the damn allen screw for the saddle adjustment gives out and no more adjustment. No reason for it as its not like I was adjusting intonation often. Maybe once a year if that. Switched to Gotoh years ago and not once have I ever had any issues. Would highly recommend over an OFR!

Another vote for Gotoh here. I would never consider owning any other locking trem anymore.

I prefer the Gotoh. I like the way that the arm attaches and is adjustable.

+1

I've also had problems with Floyd saddles sounding dull or producing weird pinging sounds on the high E. I now only use Gotohs and they have performed flawlessly for me.
I have had the Pinging sound as well.tried and have kept a Gotoh 1996T..great tremelos at a great cost.

I've played floating trems my whole life, what is this pinging sound you speak of? The saddles rattling against the baseplate or something else?

Owned plenty of guitars. Lots of experience with both.
I like the gotoh slightly better. Not sure why. Just personal preference.
But let’s say all my guitars have Floyd’s on them.
Except for my Fender HM. That has a Kahler Steeler on it. Now that’s!!! ....
My all time fave.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Sounds like the Gotoh is a great alternative in case I want to buy a new one. I do have an OFR off an old Kramer in my box o junk, not sure what condition it's in anymore.

The Kahler Steeler is my favorite...Tom Anderson's too. Sadly it's out of production since way back. That's the reason I suggested the Gotoh which is the runner up to the Kahler Steeler.

I can't speak for the jt6 but I prefer the Gotoh 1996t to the OFR hands down. It's just so smooth, has no loose or rattling parts, everything important is able to be locked down, even the springs themselves. you can also set the bar to be just right weather you like it dangling freely or set pointing the rear strap button its NEVER wobbly rattly or loose.

I've been wondering if I'd prefer a Gotoh over a relatively new OFR and I'll never really know unless I try one. This thread lit a fire under my ass to order one. R/T strikes again!

If it just lets all strings ring clearly it's a win.

Usually on unwound strings. I have had it on high E strings for sure, but I think maybe on a B string on one of my guitars too. Its when the string vibrates, but has kind of a buzz or a high pitched sound on the attack. Cheap metal on the nut or saddles can cause it.

I have guitars with both Gotohs and OFR Floyds. I like them both.
I agree that there's something about the look of the Gotoh that just doesn't look quite right. So I vastly prefer the look and feel of an OFR Floyd. But the Gotoh's quality, practicality and affordability are hard to beat.

Got it installed and there are things about each that I prefer. And I've only played it an hour or so. But the Gotoh let's all the strings ring clearly and the OFR was slightly choking/damping certain strings. Only thing I swapped was the bridge itself. So that right there is a huge win. As for the aesthetics, decide for yourself. I think it looks fine.
