The big thing is the palm mutes always sound sad. A lot of rock guys talk shit about the palm.mutes and triplets being easy, and then they cant even play a simple riff like Cold and Ugly.

When my rock buddies here me play they ask me if i am tuned down to C because they think that is why they are chunky...I play in standard and drop d. The chunkiness is the palm position

It's also bitch picking and lack of authoritativeness

Insert blues where you wrote metal and you see the same stupid kinda stuff there too.

I don't really see that too often 🤷‍♂️ Only like, retarded teenagers who are like "oh yeah the blues are this" and play some minor pentatonic bullshit, ignoring the fact that 90% of the blues is major pentatonic lol

But even then that's because they are playing the wrong scales, not because they can't even get the basics of the technique right

The youtube thing (see, marty above, robert baker, phil mcknight, glenn fricker) is way, way more common to see with grown adults. I think it's because teenagers are more likely to underestimate blues, and adults are more likely to underestimate metal

It's basically an epidemic on TGP - everyone is constantly talking about being "ham fisted" and arguing with eachother about who has more "touch" and who plays softer

The problem is that they are completely ignoring the fact that touch is more than just playing hard versus playing soft, it's playing consistently when it's required in rhythm, and playing softer and harder to emphasize phrasing when playing leads.

It's such a huge problem (bitchpicking, that is) on TGP that I think there's some sort of weird social experiment

I think touch is something that comes from the ear playing a loud amp with dynamics. You play the same thing over and over again and your pick strength and fret finger make sounds through the speakers that train you on when to do what....it isnt fucking rocket science.

Some parts you are playing you want to sound a certain way. You can control it with nothing but your hands

It has to be all these modeller players or guys olaying tube amps at whisper volumes...

Well, you aren't a blues player, shrug. I've been tossed from a couple different sites for telling old dudes who think their favorite classic rock guitarist is also a blues player is a stupid, because it is. Like the teenagers you mentioned, they think knowing a minor pentatonic and tossing a few blues tunes onto the set list is the qualifier. It's like some moron form of hero worship. I should start calling myself a punk rock guitarist cause I was on the bill with some punk bands for skatepark benefit shows 30 years ago, LOL.

I think the constant "touch maaaan gotta play softer and with FEEEEL" bullshit is funny though because it makes it completely impossible for them to play metal and have it sound good

I used to gig consistently with blues and rock bands as a drummer, therefore I never bring up gig experience on this site, because I wasnt a gigging guitarist in that setting.

I have "gigged" as a guitarist at parties, but it was more Im drunk and having fun than real gigging
