I saw him a small club here last Winter and it was over the top good. He’s just the coolest most approachable cat ever. Guy I was with ended up taking the ext day off work and drove 160 miles to see him again and GK recognized him and gave him a shout out from the stage. There were all of 50 people in that room, what a shame

Saw Greg at a clinic in Dayton, Ohio which had to be around 20 years ago. Had only heard about him in guitar magazines and had not heard him play. That was a humbling experience.

I enjoy his playing and his humor. I wish he would do a comedy album of sorts. Play those funny songs he makes up on the spot but then throws in all the cool licks and chops that blow your mind. I could listen to a record of that stuff and laugh. There are many guys that I wish would have done something similar. Kinda like some Jerry Reed stuff.

In my opinion there is no better guitar player on earth. He doesn't really play stuff that I want to sit down and listen to, but his control of the guitar is the standard by which all others shall be judged.

I learn something every time I see him play. He's a encyclopedia of techniques and phrasing.

Like Hendrix and a few others there seems to be zero separation between him and the instrument.

Most of what he puts out is really good, his proficiency and ability to just take his playing anywhere he wants is really top notch.

He rips. His hybred picking approach is insane. He also has a great sense of humor with his rants. Being humble and that good is rare these days. I make it a point to take 15-20 min to watch all his new content.

Sidebar - my little 6° of separation from the guitar he has here…he mentions that this Keeper Guitar of his was built by J. Black. J. Black is actually responsible for the whole relic craze as we know it. Keith Richards came to him and wanted a guitar that was like his 52 Tele so that he could leave the real one at home when he toured. J. Black built in the Guitar, but Richards didn’t like it because it was so clean and new, asked if he couldn’t make it look like his old one? J. Black did exactly that and the rest is relic history.

Fast forward a bunch of years and my friend is working for McKenzie River Music and all fired up about his new Fender Shop Custom Classic Tele, raving about it to some random new customer who keeps coming into the shop about every other day. Dude finally says “well bring that fancy guitar in, I wanna check it out.” My friend, brings the guitar in and ends up showing it to the guy, dude checks it out it and says, “yeah that’s nice but we can make it better”…. My buddy was in full what the actual fuck mode ha ha, asks the guy “what makes you think you could make it any better than it is?” dude says “I’m J. Black, I started the Fender custom shop….” The guy apparently had a meltdown and walked off the job at Fender quitting and moved to Eugene Oregon. He was still doing all of Suhr Guitar’s high-end custom one off paint finishes. Well, he took this guitar and completely went through every inch of it, every surface, all new paint, all the fretwork all new guts, all new hardware. It’s basically a Master Built Tele…I ended up with the guitar, have had it a long time, have considered selling it but pull back after playing it, it’s ridiculous
