Grill cloth question

So I got some S&P to replace my EVH black grill cloth and when comparing it to my Marshall it has a lot more black in it. Now I’ve had the Marshall cab for 25 years or so and even though it got gigged it mainly has been at home. Is it just the nature of things that cloth patterns change a bit over the years and depending who is making it? Or does my Marshall actually have something different from S&P? I was pretty sure from pics that the Marshall isn’t black & tan but maybe it is?

That Marshall cab looks more like pinstripe to me, rather than S&P. Is that a TV cab? Gold piping, too, if my eyes aren't deceiving me.

Not a TV cab. I came across it in a store this way, as a used 1960BX cab, where somebody had already changed it.

Either way, it's a great looking cab. If you want the S&P to look darker, I've heard that you can dye it using coffee. I've just let mine get dirty the old-fashioned way. Bet that EVH will look great with the S&P.

I was hoping to match the Marshall cab. The S&P is too dark. I ordered a swab from Amplified parts of some B&T. If it matches better, I’ll get that instead.

ChurchHill is correct.The grill cloth on the pictured Marshall cabinet is blues breaker (aka pinstripe). Not sure if it’s Genuine Marshall or an aftermarket brand. Either way, it’s quite different from the salt-n-pepper. Good luck on your project!

Yes, the cab in the background looks to have the "Bluesbreaker reissue" kind of Marshall grill cloth, which is a very loose modern version of the old original Pinstripe; it's its own thing.

Different things VS the modern "Salt & Pepper" Basketweave reissue grill cloth you're holding in your hand. That S&P one is much closer to the original late 60's Basketweave than the "Bluesbreaker" grill cloth is to the original Pinstripe.

Looks like Amplified Parts has the identical pinstripe that’s on the cab so any one need some salt and pepper?
