Opeth! Holy crap, I was watching the Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD with my Buddy Andrew last night when we caught a glimse of the Axe Fx. It is in the bonus footage of "Opeth on tour". You only see one shot for a split second. I had to rewind it to be sure and sure as shit their it was. They show another shot of it a few minutes later.

Interesting stuff for those who give a shit.

I have seen them on the stages of periphery, after the burial, B t b a m , cynic, so far in the metal world.

Megadeth were using them last year when I saw them.... but thats old news.

I've heard 'em (AxeFX) live, specifically Dweezil, and the higher up playing sounded like a cacophony of crap. Completely and utterly indecipherable. Yet, his side kick guitarists mic'ing Dr.Z's and Duende's and Shiva's sounded perfect :dunno:

Cynic was why I am interested in the Axe FX. They sounded better live than recorded when they came through town.

I knew Broderick was but wasn't sure about Mustaine.

Dream Theatre was using the Axe when I saw em this past summer. I was not overly impressed but Opeth tones are pretty freakin good. But they do mix it up a bit and some tonz were less then desirable while other songs were :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Yup, I posted about this when the DVD first came out. Mikael is still using the BOSS floorboard into the clean channel of his Laney. Fredrik is using the Axe-FX.

And you're correct, only Broderick is using the Axe-FX in Megadeth. Mustaine is still using the Digitech GSP into Marshall Power Amps AFAIK.

Mustaines rig had bothe the Digitech and the AF when I saw them, couldn't tell you which he was using, but they had no cabs or monitors on stage...

It's all good mate, the more threads about Opeth, the better IMO

One of my favorite bands..Mikael is a songwriting genius, and a very nice guy. I haven't heard from him lately. We keep in touch every now and again via e-mail. Last time we talked, he was talking about putting a solo album of acoustic material together.

I'd be curious to know if any reamping was involved. The dvd sounds killer.

just say no!

you're gonna talk yourself into one before it's said and done!

Whitechapel, Meshuggah, and Severed Savior also have members using the Axe-FX live now.

yep, i had one and could get it to sound damn good, but at the end of the day it just wasn't for me.

for me the gazillion deferent amps, weren't that deferent sounding, and it was really just like a single amp with effects.

i'd rather turn a knob, and/or stomp on a few pedal switches.

if you have power amp for the axe, slaving is more fun than barrel fun of monkeys. Suhr line out box, or amps with line out.

it's ridiculous how many guitar players I admire that have made the switch.
Meshuggah, After the Burial, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, Born of Osiris, BTBAM, CYNIC, CYNIC, CYNIC, I'm sure I'm forgetting others....
I've got to admit, it's on my "want" list but I just simply cannot afford one.
