Delay pedal. When I was 14 and got one for the first time.
I probably spent 10 hours playing the first day.

That explains why your so good now.

The simple marriage of OD/boosts with tube amplifiers was a big one for me.

This. Seems such a simple solution today, but back in the late eighties, being from a small town, it was a holy shit moment.

Probably realizing that I will never be a great guitarist, so might as well just enjoy whatever it is that I can play!

Game changers... The first time I played through a tube amp. That was an eye opening experience. Miles away for the Peavey Bandit 75 I started with. lol! In recent times, my Splawn Quick Rod ended all of my amp gas. It is the tone I have been chasing for 30 years.

Probably my ADA MP-2 back in the day.

These days, I'd have to say my Boss GT-1.

I'm downsizing from my GT-100 (which is the core of my sounds), and it's working better than I expected. Since the footprint is so small, I'm also using my Boss SY-300 integrated into the GT-1. I can get guitar and/or guitar synth tones in about the same footprint as my GT-100.

For guitars, it would have to be my Fender Marr Jag which became my number one, and led me to a Squier Jag and Fender MIJ Jag (from Japan)

For guitars, there is no "one" (I'm way too greedy). For amps, my game changer has been a Bogner Shiva. I got one last year and it has killed off amp GAS as put an end to all the tone tweaking I used to do. It is simple to dial in and sounds great.

Somehow I never managed to like OD boost pedals. I play high gain amps maybe thats why. But whenever I tried them it felt like the low end punch or thump of the amp was gone.

My wife recently divorcing me after 23 years. That'll put all sorts of time to play on u.

Getting back to Strats! Being my first electric guitar, then switchet to full blast double humbuckers for more than 15 years. Last year I picked up a Limited Edition Custom Shop 62 reissue and it really changed my perception of GOOD tone. Moved to more melodic and soulful tunes as well....

My Triple Rectifier rev F. One of the first triple rec's ever made, fantastic amp!

"5150 III MINI"

HA... the 50 watt 5150 ain't no slouch!

The term "mini" made me think you were referring to an EVH 5150 III LBX - which is still a cool amp.

I had the opportunity to play a Boss Katana yesterday and while I certainly think it rises to the level of Peavey Bandit in the context of combo amp history - cheap and not bad... I am remiss to compare an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head to it. I would suggest you schedule an appointment with your local hearing specialist as you seem to have a tone deafness issue going on. :D

Damn Bro. Hope you are OK. Positive mojo sent. 23 is a long time,...

Still looking for that piece of gear lol! Actually some crazy chick I used to date in my early 20's gave me some shitty Zoom multi effects pedal that used to be her ex's and that's what got me using effects and made me the player I am today. That and my Engl Savage 120 I sold last year ruined me for all other amps as far as tightness goes.

For amps, it was playing thru my first SLO back in the 90's. Fast forward to today, it's (finally) the only amp I use...

For guitars, having this guy as a good friend for the past 30 years (Dave, not Mr. Erlewine) has spoiled me on Les Pauls...

The Kemper.

30 years of futzing around with sub-standard-but-slowly-improving modellers and emulators was finally over. No more GAS for that shit, thank God, and thank you Christoph!
