I am getting ready to place an order for some picks and thought I would try some different ones. I have been using Fender Medium and Heavy for a long time. Of late its mainly been the Mediums. They work okay, but seem to wear really fast of late.

So I am looking for recommendations of some other picks to try along the same thickness as Fender Mediums.

For reference, my main guitars are strats or Les Pauls. I generally play classic rock, old school metal, punk, alternative, etc.

Most people are probably going to just tell you "whatever feels the most comfortable for you" which really is all that matters. Personally I've switched over to the Jazz III picks made out of Ultex. I think they're amazing, especially for lead. I really like the Ultex material as it's durable as hell and has a really nice feel to it when you're hitting the strings. Also that pointy tip just seems great for alternate picking. If you don't like the smaller pick sizes you can just try some Ultex picks closer to your Fender picks.

I had to quit using Fenders because of the fast wear also. I switched to the Dunlop Tortex picks and they last a really long time. You could go with the yello (.73) - that's probably closest to the Fender medium. There's also .88 - I personally use the 1.0 but I've used the .73 and .88 and got way more usage out of them than the Fender's.

I like Dunlop nylon 1mm. They have a little give, beveled edges (tortex are blocky), texture for grip and still have a little weight to them. Oh, and they are black. Everything sounds better black.

Check out Dunlop Riffs. Great picks.

Used to use Tortex Purple, then Ralph and H turned me onto Cool Pics Heavy. I can't use anything else now and if I don't have 2 fresh one's in my wallet at all times I have anxiety attacks...

I use dunlop tortex 1.0's, seem to work pretty good for me.

Dunlop Big Stubbys are what I use about 80-90% of the time. On acoustic or more strummy sort of playing, I'll use Tortex 1.0 mm ones.

I used to be really uncomfortable playing with thick picks, now I feel helpless w/o one.

Planet waves black ice are cool. You can get them in 4 thicknesses.

The Dunlop EJ Jazz III or the new Dunlop Max Grip Carbon Fiber Jazz III......

I like the green gator grips. Ive tried lots of picks, and definitely prefer thicker picks. The ultex ones are great too.

I also use the jazzIIIs but like DStroud said, I think you're looking for the yellow Dunlop .73mm tortex or green .88mm tortex

I love the large triangle .88 Ultex picks. They don't slip in my fingers and just feel really comfortable for rhythm and lead work.
I bought a bag of fifty so I'm set for a while.

I like the Dunolp Tortex. The green ones. I think they're .73mm

Try the yellow, green, and blue Tortex. Lay them out and try each one and go from there. It's a good place to start.
