I don't understand how these things seems to happen to you at a much higher rate than anyone else on the forum. You get a lot of good feedback in the feedback section here, sorry to hear that doesn't follow you to other sales venues. Sorry you have to deal with nonsense again, best of luck sorting it out...

Between Reverb and Ebay, I have over 400 transactions. It certainly increases the odds!

All said and done, a dozen or so hiccups is about par for the course!

"Higher rate than anyone else on the forum" is a pretty bloated statement.

There is no sense in fighting it. Just take it back, shipping is on his dime and resell it.

But now the guy has it in his possession. What he ends up doing to it is the scary part. I honestly would not risk that.
People are fkd up unfortunately

For what it's worth, I've called his bluff. He states he tried another one locally, that acted the same, (go figure). But, he's still insisting it's noisy, which I never disagreed with. Anyone who's owned a JVM knows what I mean.

I caught him in a number of confessions of admitting to user error, and I find it odd that he "asked" to return it, and one one point even somewhat begged, rather than demanding. This, to me, shows he just doesn't like it, has buyer's remorse, and concocted stories to find a loop hole. He even mentioned selling it. But, then he backtracked to "issues". I think he realizes I'm no rookie, and I suspect he'll go away.

He said he had a tech that worked on his "Twin", so I advised him to have him look at it, and provide me documentation of any issues and I would "address"..

I used to own a 205H and its perfectly normal reading what he described and reporting this as an issue. There are volume drops between modes and there for sure is a ton of feedback if you dime the gain when using the red modes and higher gain channels. I rarely found myself using the gain control beyond 12 oclock. Also - these amps are super picky in regards to clean electricity in house. Mine was super silent until I decided to sell it and brought it to a guy's rehearsal space. We fired it up and all we got was terrible 50hz cycle hum. I started freaking out, he said he wont buy, i took it home and voila all fine. THen he came to my place we played it and he eventually decided to buy it since the amp was 100% functioning and playing like a beast. I hope his cab was wired properly too cause I've seen guys report back an amp failure only to find a cold solder joint in their speakers which kept blowing power amp fuses, tubes and resistors.
best of luck!

I am so sick of hearing these horror stories. It’s clearly buyers remorse, or else the dude is just a moron who has never dealt with high gain channel changers.

no way I would accept a return and I would fight it until the bitter end. People have become so horrible with this stuff. PayPal’s 6 month or year return policy is literally the most preposterous thing I have EVER heard.

this is becoming common and it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. I have bought a lot of gear that I didn’t like at all. As a matter of fact, I have acquired gear that I despised and hated. Just wasn’t my thing, there was nothing wrong with it. I accept that, and I will sell it, that’s part of buying and selling. These god damn snow flakes and their sense of entitlement is just awful.

don’t even get me started on PayPal. Sweet Jesus, but they are the worst. I did a deal with a guy in person and he paid me with PayPal. He then reported to PayPal that someone used his account and it wasn’t him. They sucked the cash right out of my account. They told me either way, I was wrong, that it’s not for local in person sales.

Buyers remorse is not a legitimate reason for a return. If you don’t know how the gear you acquire works, and the item is fine, that’s your problem for not doing the homework. Accept it and move on, don’t file a claim like a blubbering ninny.

If I was reverb, and of course, I’m not, the first hint that someone was a scammer, baby who can’t handle the world of grown ups and can’t be honest, hints at buyers remorse as the reason for a return, or pulls any sort of nonsense, I would instantly initiate a lifetime ban and inform them that the platform is for reasonable and rational human beings, not scumbags and thieves.

I’m sorry for the rant, but this is happening so frequently these days. The OP should not even have to consider taking a return. The other guy that took the cab back because he caught the guy lying, and then the guy said it wasn’t jiving with his sound, you are a better man than I am, because there is not a chance in hell I would have taken that back, no way. Not liking gear is not a reason for a return.

over the past 6 months I have seen so many threads like this. I find it even more distasteful that musicians are doing this to one another. I will only do deals with guys I know, or long term forum members that others vouch for. Although, even that doesn’t always work. I’ve come across a couple deceptive wankers that were couches for.

so what is the solution? I don’t know? People have become so dishonest and awful over the past few years. I don’t remember scammers being so prevalent even 5 years ago, but obviously something changed and many guitarists started to think it was ok to scam other guitarists. They are ruining what could be a cool thing for everyone. But, because of this behavior, people are leaving the platforms and only doing in person deals.

there is a cool new platform being developed by a fellow rig talker, hopefully he is able to pull it off and put reverb out of business, wouldn’t that be nice. I am sick of hearing reverb ALWAYS siding with the buyer. Something needs to change.

rant over, sorry about that, but seeing this thread just infuriated me. This is happening way too much. Sorry OP tha you have to deal with this nonsense. Hopefully you come out on top.

Amen, brother. I agree with everything you say.

And, honestly, I get a bad taste in my mouth when guys are asking about amps, and people mention "buy both, and return the one you don't like". People abuse these return policies many have, and its part of the reason so many feel "entitled" to return things. It has a trickle-down effect, and fucks up every buy/sell platform there is. And PayPal, their 180 day policy and track-record of siding with buyers is 99% of the problem. Real genius..

omg its so rough out there on the gear resale market. Back in the day, if you got something that had a minor issue, you kinda bit it and dealt with it because it was too much trouble to try and get the seller convinced that an issue arouse, and its your word vs theres. That got me into doing the research to learn how to fix my own gear. I even took a community college analog electronics class in the early 2000's because of all that.
You'd be surprised at how many people 1) don't know how to truly test what they are selling 2) don't know the first thing about gear 3) could have a slightly fucked up amp, and they don't even realize it when they say it "works great". Reality bites :(

Yeah, this guy is playing it through a 1x12, and said he tried a 210H through a 4x12 and said it sounded different. DUH.

My favorite line is still "rebias the tubes to reduce static"...maybe he should try replacing the amp handle to add bass too.

Tell him to take out the mains HT fuse, stick his tongue in the slot, turn on the amp, and tell you how it tastes.
:p

I like his circuit board diagnosis best. And don't forget, it needs several areas of repair to be rebiased!

Reverb's trying to side with the buyer. Buyer refuses to have it looked at, (after he offered). Reverb states they needed proof, but I guess they just go by the buyer's word, and aren't going to enforce their own policies. I'm guessing he used PayPal, and the dispute would be against them.

They said they'd pay shipping to return it to me "as a courtesy" I told them I don't accept returns for buyer's remorse, user error, ignorance, or "I don't like it", and told them to shove it where the sun don't shine, and "close my account, effective immediately".

I've asked repeatedly to speak to someone over the phone, vs. an email response every 3 days. What a joke, and poor business model. I'm done with this stupidity. Just the fact that I can't speak to a live human over the phone is enough for me. Good luck to other poor bastards that run into issues. I refuse to do business with ANY company that doesn't have a phone.

Well, interesting turn of events. Reverb called me! I spoke to them in great length, and it was obvious they didn't read the messages. The guy even found it hard to believe he waited 6 days to open the box! So, at this point, they've not gotten return calls, and they are forcing the issue of "prove it". I think things have shifted in my favor.

I am glad to hear. I have had decent response from Reverb over the phone with issues. I once had a guitar show up broken and the guy said I had to take it up with Fed Ex. Reverb refunded my cash. But I have had guys shake me down after the fact to get money back and oftentimes it is easier to cut a deal with them and make them go away. I am done selling large things online too. Pedals are fine but anything else is joke to me. Too many scammers and liars out there. I am glad they sided with you! F that bum.

Reverb gave the guy $250 and didn't charge me for it. That's fucked up. Yeah, doesn't cost me anything, but the fucker got away with it, and got the amp for $550.

I'm glad you didn't get screwed but part of me is mad that little weasel got that money back. POS.
