No contest, for me anyway. There's a lot to choose from, but I thought his Halford band days were his absolute best live vocals ever. Top of his game. They've been my favorite band of all time since my introduction when Unleashed In The East came out. Then, I got British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance came out, then I went back and bought everything back to Rocka Rolla. He's the greatest, and in his own league. Funny enough, his older, more tired vocals on Firepower, at his age, still beats the shit out of Dokken and Bon Jovi TODAY.

True Priest fans can appreciate this one.

We had a thread several years back.
Maiden or Priest.
It was damn near 50 / 50

I’m torn as well on this. Saw priest 3 times. Freakin got blown away.
Saw Maiden live after death tour. Wow.

Same story here.

Saw Halford first album tour in Tacoma WA with Queensryche and Iron Maiden (return of Bruce and Adrian). Epic! Halfords guitar players - Metal Mike and the singer of Damageplan both played Jackson soloists.

First tunes I learned was spinning early Priest. Heading out to the Highway..Desert Plains…The Ripper…
Second concert I saw was Screaming for Vengeance; LaCrosse center.

Big fan of JP right up until ram it down... after that there was a style change and I started to lose interest, more screaming instead of singing and the guitar rhythms sucked.. too much thrash, not enough sentinel

I just watched a recent live show and Halford still sounded great. Strained a little bit here and there but nothing that probably would have been noticed in the room. Faulkner was killing it!

Last time I saw Priest live KK and Glenn were still in the band. KK blew me away at that show. Glenn was still Glenn but KK was on another level.

I didn't get to see many later shows, but did see them on the Painkiller tour with Megadeth & Testament. Friedman & Skolnick on that bill was the ultimate. Of course, Priest blew them away. Funny, Dave's amp kept cutting out, and he wasn't a happy camper!

They were super tight live back in the 80's. Put on a top class show for sure.

Maiden and the Scorps were in that boat too.
Saw the Scorpions tripping on Acid. Think I was about 17. Was a killer show, Kingdom Come opened up.

Are you sure that wasn't the Monsters of Rock bill? I saw that show and it was Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, Scorps, and VH.

No, just those 2 bands, not Monsters Of Rock.

I had to go listen to it again after this post reminded me . Satchel being killing it here already !
Damn, I didn't realize he was in Fight.. I had to hit Wiki... He actually said he left because he got "bored" with their music.

JP changed their style, to varying degrees, on every album. Always changing at a rate unparalleled in metal. Can’t think of even one of their albums that’s a copy of a preceding one.

Ive seen them on 6 different tours, starting with British Steel, they always delivered live, but Screaming for Vengeance was like a battalion of tanks running over you! Defenders of the Faith was also very very good. British Steel was great but they did not yet have the sheer visual impact of what must have been at least 40 (?) double headed Marshall stacks on multiple vertical levels and the huge stage they had on SFV and the next several after that. (even though you knew they were not all being used) The live show was at another level starting with SFV. We saw them twice on that tour.
I never really got the Priest vs Maiden comparisons, they are very different musically. I love them both. Halford and Dickinson really could not be more different..
