Has anyone compared Cameron's and Gower's mods?

I think that growl is all in how you set up the amp. I can get that growl out of my CCV with ease. However I do understand the smoothness the CCV can also get.

Ignoring the pedal issue, listen to my CCV in the beginning of this clip. It has that modded Marshall growl.

Man that sounds a lot like Mesa.

Really? Which one?

I’ve owned a 2C, 2C+, 2C++, Mark III (every stripe), Mark IV, Mark V, JP2C, Rev F dual and triple rectos and none of them sounded like the CCV. Even with sticking a custom boogie made rack EQ in the loop. To me, if one sounded like the CCV, I’d cash out in a heart beat.

My Fav Cam Marshall was a modern mod, a 2203X that definitely was a bit of Mesa mixed with mostly Marshall. That was my first Cam and wanted to try others, so I sold it. The one thing that you only get with a Cam Marshall is a unique feel. No other modded Marshall has it. And yes I've had one from all the big names, except an actual Jose A modded Marshall.

Dave, we have known each other on the forum here for years. I'll take that Cameron off your hands anytime man. - Mike (RR). LOL!!!

All joking aside, if you listen in your clip at the 0.50 mark, that growl is exactly that Cameron tone. Open chords just have this engine like quality. I compare it to when people equate Eddie's "brown sound" tone to something. There is a Cameron tone that when you hear it, you just know it.

The CCV, i get a little Mark V vibe from that clip, but it might be just me.

Although, I did see a Cameron Aldrich selling for 4K on reverb.
If anyone is interested in that particular Cameron, They can feel free to hit me up here via P.M.

Currently interested in both of these. What i'm wondering is that is Cameron tighter in low end than Gower and what about the mid range? I've only seen clips and they both sound outstanding in their own ways.
I’ve had several of both. By Gower I’ve had a Rockmonster and KK++ and by Cameron I had a Jose and still have an Aldrich 79 JMP2203, 3 channel Aldrich/Jose/Plexi 78 SLP, Atomica modded SLP and a ccv.

For tightness, the ccv is the tightest, but the kk++ could get close and my Atomica is also very tight. My Aldrich and 3 channel are kinda loose though, but my Aldrich has for me the best mid range. It has an amazing upper mid growl that I’ve not heard matched in any other amp I’ve tried yet. My Atomica and 3 channel also have amazing mid growl

The Gower’s were great and maybe my 2nd favorites for modded Marshall’s, but to my ears the Cameron’s were in another league when I compared them side by side. They were just bigger sounding, more organic, 3D and growly, but the Gower’s were in the same ballpark

With Cameron’s, I know the donor amps can make a huge difference. I’d recommend, whichever modded Marshall you get, to have a good older one (like 70’s JMP’s or SLP’s) as the donor amp. It’ll sound more rich and organic. The newer ones sound comparatively more filtered and restrained

Particulary the CCV interests me, how much tighter is it compared to the Gowers?
This is likely due to the heavier filtering.

And that filtering probably costs a little bit in the openess of the sound?

About the CCV, is anyone building a clones of these and selling them? I can at least see a schematic of the preamp section floating around the webs.

The few Ive seen where a mixed bag with either 180 or 220uf in series with balancing resistors and either 22 or 33ig in the preamp. I also suspect that a 10h choke was used bit didn't measure. I prefer a 3h for a more modern sound. I feel the 10h gives is a stiffer less open sound

Thank you for all the replies in this thread. After a careful consideration i've decided to get a amp from Dan, i'm pretty sure that i will not be dissapointed.

Will not be disappointed. My Gower was the best amp I've owned and Dan was GREAT to work with and email with. At least when I had something modded (2016), he really took the time to write long responses to my questions and even explained things I didn't ask about (even before I ever sent him any payment). Can't wait to deal with Dan again.

Also, you'll want to email him ASAP to commit because I believe he has a ~6 month waiting list.

I think an Aldrich with the CCV’s chugs or tightness would be a much better option if hypothetically possible

completely different topology between the amp designs, so modding 1 to be like the other is not a subtle change

That's the unfortunate reality with amps, can't have everything in one package.
