I still remember how the Engl Powerball was the be-all-end-all of amps because of it's 4th channel. :bleh:

The Powerball had quite a long run at the top of HCAF trendiness for awhile, compared to some other amps.

Have to Give DerekB credit for stirring up a frenzy for them back then, he had a good run by today's standards.

11 years of reading forums has shown me nothing stays at the top forever, what goes up will always come down at some point.

Given the purported ultra/uber high-gain faceblast nature of this amp, I'm curious to know if it'll have or retain the ability to clean up (to any reasonable degree) when the gtr volume is rolled back. I'm guessing it won't, or not enough to really be meaningful and so channel switching would be required... still, very interesting and intriguing amp!

Its not going to out-gain a 5150, ENGL, etc. Of course it'll have plenty of gain, but its more about quality over quantity. The gain ch. will have a somewhat lower gain mode.

Yup, the HCAF crowd thinks that gain = tone. My response to that is, take a Metal Zone and put everything on 10, then plug it into a JC120. Tons of gain sure but what's it sounds like.

I was listening to my old Powerball clips the other day :bleh: :bash:  Either I have gotten better at recording or the amp sounded that bad. It was a pretty stiff playing amp. People usually call VHT amps sterile. The Powerball was the most sterile amp I have ever played.

The Bones would be my pick. Even though it's 1 channel you can till switch between 3 gain modes, that would cover lots of ground.

But i can't wait for my Cali Mod

You are going to love it

Do i need a Strathead guitar to be 100% legit now? :D

Hell no, tired of reading you bitching about them

  The red one that Dave owns is pretty close to swaying me. He's got Aldrich pickups in it so it's got lot's of output.

I'd love a Suhr Modern with Mahoganey/maple, but i simply ain't shelling out $4,000 for one. The wife would kill me.

Thanks! This is what I was hoping to hear. I've LONG since outgrown the clarity destroying, super buzzsaw, hiss-factories that comprise most typical high gainers. They have their place and can be tamed to a certain extent, but I'm much more in favor of something with character, "oomph" (for lack of better words), tonal quality, and so on.

Tone Merchants will be carrying the Fortin amps. I cant wait to dive into the meathead. That will probably be a 20 minute youtube video demo

Dave has that Charvel tweaked just right, it kills.

I've made my choice as the Meathead has all that I need in terms of gain and tone and tight responce. That being said I can have the Natas transformers put in if I want them, but the Natas truly will sound like nothing else.
Obviously the limiting factor of my Hulk Marshall is that the transformers and overall construction are of old methods, but the amount of tight clarity that is available on this amp is like nothing I've heard before. Mike loaned me his VHT pitbull ultralead and that thing can't touch the Hulk! I can't even get my mind around the things Mike has explained to me, but knowing that he is behind this makes me totally not worried about the possibilities!. Plain and simple it will be a godamn monster of the highest order!.

The Meathead is already there in my eyes. Nothing else out there can sway my opinion after having owned the amps I've owned nothing touches Mike's gear!

I decided to wait on moving forward on the MEATHEAD till NATAS is out. Just to see the differences and to be sure I get what I want. There is only one other amp I am interested in. That is the THD that is not out and on hold for a release date.

I know the BONES would be plenty. But I start thing about having stuff added on, like a other gain control / etc. and before long I remember that any time I do not get what I want the first time .....

I use medium gain most of the time and more vintage voices for the bands I am in now. But the idea of having as much control as the MEATHEAD has to offer ........ I feel the MEATHEAD is going to be the one.

The natas would not be the best choice for that.

That is what I was thinking. I already know I am going to want both a MEATHEAD and a NATAS.

Spoke with Mike and the SLP is going to Mike for the Cali mod, I will at some time grab another stock one but I am getting the Cali done now as I have a good feeling that Mike is going to focus on his main ampline sooner than later.

Should be on it's way to his shop by early next week.

As I understand it, the Natas will have a lot more gain than a 5150 or Engl....but it will be 100% useable. The Hulk JCM800 has more gain... I owned a 5150 and have played plenty of Engls... the Hulk was super saturated, yet clear and refined. Mike says that the Natas will have more gain  Heck, the Meathead has tons of gain. If I dont get a Natas, I am getting a Bones, but with Meathead transformers and its high gain channels. Now all I have to do is wait... :D

Or a Bones with Natas transformers :)

Edit....I agree about the level of gain on the Hulk being greater than any 5150 I have ever played but it is very usable.

I have to do it now as I really feel that Mike's line is going to take off and he will not have the time to do mods any longer. Next year I will sell the MK IV to help fund the Natas when it is in production.

The hammer is finally dropping on your IV.

I have a feeling next year is going to hit me heavy in the wallet amp wise. To make it worse I'm enjoying all the amps I currently have and don't want to sell any for fundraising purposes.
