I was asked to do a quick clip of the Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ with big open chords. I decided to do Lines In The Sand by Dream Theater. It is a real quick clip of the tune. I have never played it before but the real tune has majestic and big sounding chords. Turned out pretty good. Don't mind the playing. I know it isn't note for note.

Thoughts? This was recorded at really low volume. Have a couple of sleeping kids in the house. Turn it up when you listen.

Dude, that sounds great!! Love that song too  You need to do the solo next time

Great tone and playing as usual man! Really liked how the chords came through

Sounds great. These clips SMOKE the Mark V clips you were putting up.

Wow!

Just curious what are the specs on yours?

I just bought a Mark IIC+ so I want to know what to expect, should be here this week.

Sounds fantasic! These are the clips I like to hear in regards to rhythm clips as they show off the amps articulation.

Sounds tremendous! I get similar sounds out of my MIV combo... shame that tone goes away when the amp is cranked to band levels. Gets too trebly and harsh... all the warm preamp tone gets overshadowed. Still, makes for a great recording amp.

I really like that..those old Marks really are the shit. Nice job in the clip as always too :

Did you try lowering the gain as you push the volume? Or shutting off the bright switch for the lead channel? And i can see a 1x12 combo losing it's focus up loud. It's different story when you play loud through a 4x12.

Sounds great man. I haven't heard your mark V to compare them, but this sounds great...

Absolutely! IMO wank clips almost never show the true colors of an amp.

I totally agree, i really didnt know what you ment at first about how the IIC sounding better but after comparing and listening to more clips i see what you mean, i think it sounds alot more alive and seems smoother.

i still like the mkv but theres something in the mids that at first i didnt mid but now seems to bother me, almost like a cocked wah type sound that i just cant seem to dial out, if i use my ubercab and a thick sounding guitar i dont notice it as much as when i use the mesa cab and brighter guitars. i bet i would love the iic or iv.

Thanks guys. Actually, that is one of my favorite Petrucci solos ever. This is the first time I ever played the tune so I would need to spend some time with it before I attempt it.

That sounds fucking glorious. I love the grind the IIC+ has!

Any chance of that backing track too? I'd love a go at Lines in the Sand.

Thanks Dan! I am starting to believe you here. It has been so much easier to dial in the tones I want. I really struggled with the V to get what I wanted. I'm trying not to trash the amp but I just couldn't get the amp to sound the way I wanted in the room or recorded.

Mine is Simul-Class, EQ and reverb.Let us know how the amp turns out for you. I don't want to necessarily contribute to any "hype" but the amp is really meeting/exceeding my expectations so far.

Thanks Scott! I agree. With the V I kept turning the knobs to no avail. Turn the gain up and it would get congested and muddy, turn it down and the sustain would just die. I really, REALLY wanted the V to be the be all end all but it missed on a few points that I could not live with out.

That is simply BAD ACE!!!!

Thanks!

Use a 2x12 or 4x12 and the band level issue disappears. Mine sounds awesome at low volumes but sounds better as you turn it up.

I agree. I liked it, didn't love it. As you can read in some of my previous replies, it was missing on some key components that I was unwilling to live with. In the end, I am happy I made the switch.

Thanks Adam! I'm glad I had your You Tube clips to guide my decision. I will post the backing tonight minus my guitars.
