I just picked up a 2003 jcm2000 dsl100 head and a unloaded 2x12 contemporary closed back cab and am trying to decide on what to put in it. Iv ran it through wgs retro 30s and it seems this amp is fairly bright! Any ideas on what speakers complement it? Thanks very much, Ryan

celestion g12h30 70th anniv's, great speakers! especially with marshalls/modded marshalls.

That will work in a 2x12? Figured it wouldn't be enough watts? Thanks for the input!

I don't know about Marshall but the Creamback 65's are magic with my Splawn Quick Rod...

Do you have a reg V30 laying around to mix with it? The Retro 30 is a brighter more articulate speaker than the Vet30 according to WGS, so two of them might be a little bright,, are they broken in?

Retro is fairly broken in. I found a good deal on a vintage 30 so I went ahead and ordered it(not in yet) and also have a panama oversized 1x12 cab with they're take on the vintage 30 that seems a bit better than the wgs(not so bright). Was thinking about mixing the vintage 30 and with a creamback h75 in my avatar closed back 2x12?

My go-to for most of the Marshall amps I've owned - including the DSL JCM200 - is to mix V30's with Greenbacks. The DSL can be very "spikey" and Greenbacks really smooth it out. But V30's have the growl and projection I like to. I currently run a 1960A cab with 2 V30's and 2 Greenbacks in an 'X' pattern with my JVM and it just kicks ass.

Also don't rule out CL80's. I run them in a 212 mixed with an H30 with good results

I personally hate how V30's sound with a DSL (midrange spike is way too harsh), but mix in some greenbacks and it's huge sounding (I run my DSL with a V30/Greenback mix). All greenbacks is even better. Haven't tried Creambacks yet but I have yet to read one negative thing about those with Marshall style amps.

Best speakers with any Marshall that I've had are G12 65s. Old or reissue. They're made for each other. GBs are good, and don't write off an older broken in Marshall cab with 75s. They are nice when broken in, very greenbackish.

Thought about trying some lynchbacks since they are higher wattage and suppost to be greenbackish and sounds like they arent as bright as the vintage 30s

I think the lynchbacks would be a good choice, but remember they only come in 8 ohm. I'd wire them in series for a 16 ohm load. Good luck.

There is a guy selling a quad of them on the GP. Maybe he'd cut a deal for 2.

Well I was able to try the v30/retro 30 mix this past weekend and iv got to admit im not a big fan of that combo. Much too bright. I had literally turn the treble and presence down to 1 and keep the mids under 3. I think i will try and get a couple lynchbacks and try them. They seem to be a bit warmer on the top end with smoother mids from what i can tell from the clips iv heard. S saw someone on here thats selling some lynchbacks, how do you go about getting in touch with them? Sorry, computer illiterate! Thanks for all the suggestions, Ryan
