Looking to start playing some acoustic gig with the singer. Recommend me a guitar in the $500-$700 range. Currently considering the Takamine JG72 ce or PRS SE Angelius.

you might be able to find a used taylor 110 in about the upper end of that price range.

The SE Angelus is a pretty quality acoustic in that price range.

Seagull. Made in Canada, and they have the best woods and neck for the money. I think there just as good as a taylor, etc, but not as well known. My brother has a couple of them and they are just great guitars. Owned by the same company that owns Godin and I think those electric guitars are way under rated, but just my two pence of course! :-)

Don't laugh, but the Epiphone Masterbilt series has some damn fine instruments. Especially in the price range they sell for...

I agree about a used Taylor or a new Seagull...both GREAT guitars.

Blueridge is a great company that builds Martin like instruments. I have their BR-163 and it's incredible

We have a blueridge at work and it's ok. It's setup nice, and it's a nice looking acoustic. I don't know, but I think it's made in China.

I just don't trust China made guitars yet, but that doesn't mean there not good! I just don't trust their lasting in the long run.

The Seagull guitars are just great. I really can't say enough about them. I think that's a company that's way over looked. I don't know why. I'm told they even made necks for other companies such as Ibanez when they had the guitars with the Bunker necks or whatever it was that had the no stress neck because of a rod in it or something.

Yes, solid wood and decent electronics. They do sound good. You could probably get a used Taylor 214CE. Taylor gets a lot of crap but I played them all in the that price range (Martin, Breadlove, seagull, tak) and the 214CE sounded best to me. Both plugged in and unplugged.

Yamaha is also making some pretty decent guitars in that price range.

Yeah, I'd go into a store and play a bunch of Yamahas if I had the chance. Great bang for your buck yet quality guitars. I usually just pick up a bunch of random acoustics, play them, decide if it feels good, decide if it's as bright or mellow as I want, look at the name, then the price, and go from there. I played a $200 Yamaha that played and sounded nicer than a $2000 Taylor even through the fretwork itself wasn't the greatest, and bought it right off the bat. Sadly my apartment has since f**ked it up, with its constant temp and humidity changes, despite my best efforts

Whatever you get, keep it in its case when not in use!!

Don't bother in that price range. Get a Taylor Big Baby with a piezo installed for $350. It will destroy any of those $500-$700 range acoustics.

You know, I've yet to play or hear a laminate guitar sound better than a solid wood Taylor. Even the Taylors with laminate back and sides, and they sound good. A 314CE or 414CE will easily smoke a solid wood Epi Masterbuilt in tone and playability. And I like the EPI a lot. But a $200 Yamaha is net even going to be in the same universe as a Taylor in the price range mentioned.

But as far as the Yamaha's, They have a few solid wood models in the 500 to 700 range that are pretty nice.

If it was me, I'd same up a few hundred more and get a used Taylor 314 CE in the $1000 range. Great sounding guitars plugged in or unplugged.

Cant you get a new taylor 110 or 114 in that price range? T thought they were 699 or something, I also second the Yamahas and I have a Korean Breedlove concert series that plays awesome, good electronice and sounds pretty crisp for 499 I think I paid for it :)

I have a Seagull Entourage and it's great. Especially if you want an acoustic that has a low action. But I also have to mention the Taylor Big Baby. Great, great sounding and playing guitar.

You would be surprised what you can find if you look. I found my 1990 Taylor 615 for $1000. They don't make them anymore. It is pretty much Taylor's J200. All maple, non cutaway jumbo. Used is usually the way to go.

Seagull is a really good choice. Have owned an S6 cutaway for like 15 years and it is a great sounding well made acoustic. For the price it really kills.

Just pick any Martin. Every Martin 6-string dreadnought is made from the cheapest woods and they have ZERO projection, but they look good hanging on your wall hook.
