Hey guys. I need to get some pups for my Luxxtone. I don't have a ton of cash so it looks like I will be getting some Duncans, but that's fine, because I like Duncans quite a bit. I usually would order up a Super V, but the price has now been increased to 160 for one of them.

I will be cool with a 59 in the neck, unless someone has another suggestion. Has anyone played both a 59 and a Pearly gates in the neck position? Which do you prefer and why?

Ok, here is the issue. I would prefer something mid output to lower hi output. I DONT want anything that gets muddy, fuzzy, or feels kind of mushy. I want something that is pretty tight, I like it when you do the chuggah chuggah thing and the muted e string is tight, not flubby, like if you hit a tight bass drum with zero decay. It must be very articulate and on the brighter side, I like to keep a transparent sounding hi gain, clear definition, and a decent mid range, but not over powering. I have never played the Custom 5, but I am interested in it. I have played the JB and Distortion and liked the,m both, but they were also both missing something also. My attention has also been piqued bu the 59 hybrid. I don't want an Invader, that's for sure. Has anyone played the Super V? Any other Duncans similar to it?

Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance fellas!!

I cant stress how much I don't like flubby bass. It has to be tight!!

Don't have a ton of cash but you own a Luxxtone. Computer says no.

But anyway, Seymour Duncan 78 from their custom shop. Thank me later.

This is the exact pickup I was gonna say. You will love it.

I would like to try it but it cost 160 now just like the super v. the super v was 120 last time I bought one and a few years before that it was around 90. anyone have a used f spaced custom 5 they want to sell, let me know, also a 59 or pearly gates neck. needs to be black, white or zebra.

Custom 5 is awful... totally scooped and if your guitar has a Floyd you're already lacking mids.
I also hate the 78, nails on a chalk board.

I'd suggest Suhr.
DSV+ Bridge
SSV neck

Concerning neck pickups I think either are great. The 59 gave me more of the bubbly a Yngwie tone and the Pearly Gates was pure blues rack in your face kind of tone. The Jazz is a great nevk pickup and has about 10% less bass than 59 and does well split. You may want to think about the Lynch Screamin Demon or Full Shred for bridge. Great pickups that are not as aggressive or hot as their name implies. I would do 59 or Jazz in neck and Screamin Demon in bridge.

thanks for the tip, I went to the site. apparently BG pickups has stopped making humbuckers!! they now make p90s, and pickups for the mandolin. its too bad, for I live in northern California, same place as BG pickups.

 Try DiMarzio DP156 Humburcker From Hell for the neck position. Clean, articulate, bright.

any other ideas fellas? who else has played the custom 5?

I had a Custom 5 in my LTD Elite Horizon III-FR. Not sure if it was a bad pup but I found it lacked highs in the alder body neck through, sounded like (pretty sure it's not the guitar sounding dark as the Jazz in the neck sounds bright, clear and articulate). I put in a JB and the guitar sounded more alive with more upper mids and highs without sounding harsh.

Say what? That sucks. He just emailed me last week that my darkbucker was shipping. I wonder if I got the last one?
