Sorry but I gotta bump this. Just too ironic.

Still seeing lots of stuff selling way to high in the classifies here, probably will always be that way. Some of it is much, much above the more common and imho correct and fair used pricing of roughly 2/3 price of new, some of it is not even that new ymmv!

unless you are selling Jimi Hendrix's stratocaster musical gear is like a car, the minute you drive it off
the lot it is worth less than paid for.

You're mostly right, unless it's a collectible :)
This is true but I don't see much of that going around.

The market for used gear has been really weird for a while now.
I can't give away a Bogner XTC Classic but sold a Glaswerks SODII for a reasonable price.
I thought the Bogner would be long gone before the Glaswerks......
Prices for gear are all over the place, go figure.

It is ridiculous, there is a guy in Austin Tx on CL trying to sell a JCA 22 combo for 750.00. what a Fucking idiot. and a guy with a GWAR poster for 250.00. both Ads have been there for months, surely they know.

It's such odd market it's hard to find a middle ground.
Selling gear right now just plain sucks.
Trading on the other hand....seems everyone is willing to trade gear.

I posted a link of this thread in the local CL. It'll get banned in no time as my rants tend to get removed although they are not personal. I just think some people feel CL is their own personal classified area. Same old same old everyday as if I didn't see it yesterday!!! I really want to put in a link to gear that sells for less new than what they want for it used, but that gets personal.

Just make them an offer!

TRUE> I would have sold my soloist or the tele A LONG ass time ago if someone made a reasonable offer. Instead they offer $1200. there has got to be a middle ground.

I don't make offers to people...solely because they can use my offer against me.

For example: Had I offered you $1,900 for your guitar, you can now use that and show someone that offer and fish for higher offers. You know...the seller ends up saying "let me think about it or I'll get back to you." If someone bites, my offer only helped you get the item sold for more and I get nothing. Just my .02.

In your example above of $1,200....what was your counter offer?

When I see "BLOWOUT PRICE" I think big discount...not a couple hundred bucks. Don't say blowout price and expect a "reasonable offer"

Wow! Thanks for the info. Because you were cool enough to school me on how to price my items, I am, just, for you only, going to offer my Peavey Bandit (the rare "Red Stripe" version no less) for $800. PM me and we'll get the deal done.

The guitar is $2900 plus tax new. I'm offering it for $700 less and open to offers, it's mint and in perfect condition with OHSC and COA or whatever.
I think $700+tax off of retail is blowout pricing as far as I'm concerned.

So essentially your blowout price is discounting a used piece of gear at its original cost...But everyone does that anyway. Used gear is around 60% of its value as a standard.

Right there you have offered only a 24% discount on a used guitar. Unless it's a hard to get item, no one is going to buy it at those prices. I'm not trying to tell you what to price your items at, I'm just saying this thread is just a little hypocritical.

And no one in their right mind would pay $3700 for a used Wizard. I don't think I have ever seen anyone try to attempt that but good luck.

Unless it's rare, unique, or hard to obtain gear, I wouldn't consider that blowout pricing.

Guitar stores typically figure they'll sell used gear at 50% of MAP. A little more if it's totally mint.

so the distinction between your overpriced items and the people you are making fun of is that you are open to offers? also, no one in the classifieds is charging sales tax so saying that just adds to the foolishness.

the irony is thick.

Blow-out pricing has got to be at least 60% off, right? Nice shape used gear that isn't in demand priced at 40% off sells sometimes, but to get it sold you got to go 60% or more. Anytime you have something for sale and it doesn't sell in three weeks, lower the price or you'll risk becoming a douche bag. Nobody really wants to be a douche bag.

Funny thread...

Everybody wants a deal. Just because gear sits a bit doesn't necessarily mean it is overpriced. If a person doesn't like the listing move on. If you do then be reasonable in trying to make a deal and let the cards fall where they may.

I have a friend who had a Porsche that everybody felt was way overpriced. It sat in his garage for years. He stuck to his guns. One day, out of the blue, he gets an email from a guy that has been looking all over for that specific car. Paid his asking price and didn't bat an eye. Was it overpriced? Had he went with the market he would have lost about $40K from what he made on it.

I agree prices can be out of whack at times but there have been times I have got incredible deals on things way cheaper than I should have paid and then other times I paid a couple hundred bucks or so too much because the item was rare and I wanted it. In the end, it all works out.

No but 3500 for a used Wizard is not out of line when a new MTL is 4699 and very hard to get. You never know if Rick will get called on tour and then you are waiting a very long time. The newer Wizards from 2011 or so on are excellent. If you played an older unrevised one you cannot compare.

There is no way you bought that Wizard for $3700 off of Steve. I bought a Wizard MCII off of Steve for under $3K. If the used price of a Wizard is going for $3700 (which it isn't)...I'm buying new. :D

And Wizards are always popping up for sale. They aren't that rare  Although yours has colorful knobs.

Not so rare..............

I just purchased an amp that was in the classifieds a few days back. One that has been on the bucket list for a few years. :D
Did my homework. Looked at all the past sales of this amp on reverb and Ebay.
Guy had an awesome listing price and I paid it without batting an eye.
If someone wants it.....they will get it. ;)
