How are these new if (per the description on the page) "We sold these previously as the Penta Labs KT88SC's. Same tube as the Preferred Series KT88." Sounds like they are just back in stock with a different name and logo...
There is so much re-branding, hype and bullshit when it comes to tubes that it makes it a pain in the ass for people that don't live and breathe grids, screens and getters...
Had Preferred Series KT88's in my Twin Jet. They sounded better then the EH KT88's the amp came with, but I don't know how much mileage was on the EH bottles. The preferred series were ok, but the mids and high end just seemed kinda too hi fi or something.
Amp has Tung Sol 6550's in it now, and it rawks!! Maybe I just don't like the sound of KT88's, but the amp didn't sound as aggressive as I thought it should. The 6550's have the grind!!
-bias all 88's hot, they're designed for very high plate voltage's-(800v)-I've been pounding the piss out of some GOLD LION's with an embarrassingly high bias for 7 years now, the dynamics of 88's is what I love
I just got some KT90s in and put them in my D60....if you want to hear a HUGE sounding EL34, pick some up. I thought I liked KT88s...I do, but these are like 34s but a huge tight low end, 34 type mids and a nice top end. Impressed.

Yes. I had an EH KT 88 and a GE 6550 in prior, they both combined for 129ma, and I popped these in and they were each at 62.5 per tube, left it that way and gigged with it the last 2 nights. Seriously sounded like a modded Marshall with the thickest low end ever. Dig em!
