Ive got a mark v with the slave out and after reading the manual still have no idea what it means. Now ive been reading a bunch of you guys talking about slaving different heads out. So tell me about it, what is it and how is it done?

I still don't fully understand the Boogie slave out jack either. I know that you can use it to run your signal to an effects unit, and then to a power amp with stereo outs into multiple cabs to create a Wet/Dry setup.

What I don't get is what Mike B told me on the phone. He said the slave out on boogies is the preamp and power amp signal. Why would you run a line from the boogie's power amp into another power amp? I always thought when you slaved, you only sent the preamp signal to a different power amp. Kinda like running a Bogner Fish for example into the fx return of an amp head.? :dunno:

He means that the slave out included the output section of the amp. This is so you can take the slave out into a power amp and get the whole tone of the amp (preamp and output tubes) and reamp it with another power amp. Essentially, the amp is acting as a big distortion box this way.

It allows you to get all the fat output tube distortion from the amp without the ear-splitting volume. . .your second power amp can be set very quiet, but you'll be getting the tone of a screaming amp.

(also: in response to your statement about sending the preamp signal to a separate effect, and then power amp. . .in this kind of situation, you'd be able to use a mosfet poweramp, such as the HH V800 to amplify the signal, and you'd still have that output tube tone.)

Correct, the slave out has the tap from the power section so you are getting the entire signal. You take the amp and load it down with a hotplate and run the slave out into another power amp so you can get that wide open tone at lower volumes.

Example of boogies doing this is the 87 Whitesnake album, that is slaved boogie.

^ this is also what Metallica did for Master of Puppets and ..AJFA. Mark IIC+ slaves into old Marshalls.

so would i be able to use my XXX as a power amp and slave the mark v out to it? when slaving does the mark v need a speaker load on it?

Yes it needs a load. If you have a cabinet connected you will get that wide open loud tone coming from the MK so that will not work. You need a hotplate or simular device.

Put the line out into the XXX's fx return and use the master volume as your global volume.
