How important is the effects loop to you?

Not only must it have a loop for reverb, delay modulation effects, but it MUST be transparent.

I won't purchase an amp that doesn't have a loop. Delay sounds like ass infront of an amp.

With high gain, yes. Not if the amp is set clean.

Exactly.....not all fx loops are created equal.

For me it's a must have in a gigging amp, recording is a different story.

I only run delay in my loop and reverb if the amp doesn't have it, I'm hardly using delay anymore, so it's not a big deal to me.

I have zero use for a loop. I would actually prefer it if my amps did NOT have one.....

Must have a loop, a return level control is preferred. I used preamps with line mixers, fx and poweramps forever so an amp with a great loop is a must. I want a series loop so I can use a gate to stop hiss, unwanted feedback and noise and also so I can insert a line mixer in conjunction with time based fx so I always have control over my dry and effected signals.

Yep, a older Marshall Plexi etc... was designed without one & I would never ruin it by adding a loop.

With all the technology that is available today, all new production multi channel amp should have a transparent loop.

An old marshall?? Why ruin a good thing? Newer modern amps?? No loop..No buy..

Right on.

Old marshalls nothing a HP and another PA can't fix.

Anything new must have a loop, it provides the water of life.
These ^^

I second that emotion.

Consensus seems to be the loops are more desirable for modern amps, and one channel/ vintage amps do not require them. Do you use loops for rack gear or because you want your pedals( non gain) in the loop instead of upfront?

Time base fx in the loop for the most part, modulation and line level boosts in front.

Must have a loop, I like delay on leads. Totally dry for rhythm.

haha, that's exactly how I am. I want it to have one just for the added options, but I haven't used a loop for at least a couple years, lol. Not sure if it's in my head, but I prefer the sound with the loop off/bypassed on almost every amp I own/have owned.

Same here. I want to have the option and functionality. The best loop I have come across on all my amps is John Suhr's SS loop on my Aldrich mod. It has switchable "line or instrument" level and can be switched in and out. This the best of three worlds....pedals up front, pedals in the loop or line level rack FX. Mike Fortin's parallel tube driven loops are great as is the Metro loop with return level control.

My favorite solution though (says quietly) is an Intellifex through my JMP-1. Preset the return level at the JMP-1 for the favorite Intellifex effect and hit store. Saves all those "oh shit" moments on stage with your loop FX being under or over voiced.

I generally never use effects, so I really don't care. However, I do prefer there it be one, just in case :)

A good loop is a must. I am with Rezamatix too It has to be midi switchable.

For gigging it's a must...for home use and recording not so must.
