How much would you spend on a guitar...

I won't go above $5K.

$5K is the most I've spent, but that was for a true custom guitar. I spent $4,500 on my PRS, which is a Private Stock built employee guitar that I'll put up against any PRS.

Everything else is basically $2500 or less.

So I guess Craigslist is not the place for me. I saw a 1943 Gibson J 45 for $5500. No response, a Martin D 40 TP for $5500. The guy will only ship which means I can’t go next-door and pick it up. he’s got to ship it, which is a red flag. Another old Martin, no response. So I ended up buying another Knaggs off Reverb.

I’ve bought two guitars upward of 3k and I’ve disliked/didn’t get along with both.
I currently have a soft cap of 2400, which I think still allows me to buy cool stuff (Kaizen, Knaggs, Prestige), but keeps me away from making worse financial decisions (3k relic’ed Novo).

This is still true for me but I found myself looking at Balaguer's configurator and made something real nice for 3200, which is exactly why that's a "soft" cap.

i did my custom order/dream guitar for around 1kish so i can't really imagine spending more unless it was gold plated or something

The most I've spent on a guitar is 3200 euros. If I were rich and money wasn't a problem I'd easily spend more than that.
