how well does an eq pedal work in front of an amp

Extremely well for goosing, boosting or cutting certain frequencies before gain...I use a sniper mod GE-7.

For a Tiny Terror I'd use it as a boost, but the tone control on the TT is pretty dang good for just one knob. Lots of good tones in that little monster.

Bassy with Evos?

Watch it though, they are noisy as hell...all of them - Boss, DOD, MXR. Put my Boss on the pedalboard and right off it came. What I did do is get a modded Boss EQ ordered from Analogman. Mike replaces all the caps and transistors and puts a noise filter circuit in. Check them out at http://www.buyanalogman.com. I don't know that I would use it as a boost though. For that, have a look at the CAE Booster/Line Driver. It supplies like 12-20 db of boost, mild enough to make a difference but subtle enough not to erode your tone. Good for long runs of cable and tone degradation through all the effects.

I have run a danelectro fish and chips before my fender champ for tone shaping and liked the results.

I don't find it noisy either....

I bought a Fish & Chips back around '01 (I think. I can't remember exactly when it was.) and I have been using an EQ before EVERY amp/distortion pedal I use since then. I love the control over the tone it gives you. Though, it can be noisy depending on the EQ you use. The best results I got were using an old TC Electronic rackmount Parametric EQ I bummed from an bud. I've always wanted to try the Furman PQ-3 but haven't had the chance.
