I've been a KISS fan since I was a kid and Ace was one of my heroes. I'm pretty open minded about the stuff he does and most of it I dig.

Quick disclaimer..I'm a huge Deep Purple fan. I like every iteration of the band and one of my favorite bands from the 70s. Apparently Ace felt the need to do a cover of "Space Truckin'". I was excited a bit seeing what he would do with it but man this is weak in my opinion. Curious what you guys think but expecting the same results. LOL:

I reckon the drums are the main culprit in bringin' the whole vibe down.

Instead of going for a warm, vibey, dynamic '70s sound, he took the lazy-man's way out and used the ubiquitous full-velocity-sample paradigm. What a let down. Just when the world's screamin' for something different from the usual cookie-cutter, machine-gunnin', clicky-and-boring drum kit / player, he delivers this.

I feel ya, RR. There's no mojo, man.

Sounds too much like it started as a quip at a session or rehearsal, Space Ace Truckin’ and then they decided to cover it. Which they shouldn’t have... ;)

It didn’t sound as bad as I was expecting based on the buildup. It just sounded like a standard issue cover and, well...it sounded like Ace covering Purple

yeah I agree 100% .... not sure what people were expecting above and beyond that   .... I do agree with Monkey Man about the Drums being the "problem". Just no groove or soul

Exactomundo, bro'. Dem's the words I should've used - groove, soul.

All I could think of was mojo.

I've always said if you can't make it better then don't change it. I now you are a KISS/SCE fan but that comes from your childhood when your heros didn't really have to have talenet.
With all the talent that was in DP you can't expect Ace to even come close .

It's a harsh reality pill to swallow, but that there's the truth, brother.

It's in all of our best interests to stop analyzing this. (kind of like debating if that puddle in the parking lot is 2 or 3 inches deep)

Come on, seriously...this is pure Ace. The animation is hilarious, it's got Space Bear and "Eugene", how you can be an Ace fan and not smile at that.

And as others have said...it sounds pretty much like standard Ace. Agree on the drums comments, but overall, seems like just a fun cover to me.

I didn't think it was that bad, and who would have ever thought the day would come when Ace Frehley was a much better lead vocalist than Don Dokken? ;)

to be fair to both Don and David Ace has the advantage that he has never actually "sung" anything .. he basically just speaks his vocals so there should be zero strain on his voice even after decades of doing it

This right here. I didn’t hate it.

You two don't count. You guys dress up like KISS members like me. LOL!

All joking aside, I think I'm more disappointed that it isn't more Ace-like. Too safe. I have really liked his other cover songs and I probably got too excited and was expecting too much.

You guys are probably right about the drums and the "swing". ;)
