What’s up guys

I am building some Morin preamp clones that I will be selling once they’re done. If anyone is interested on here let me know. I have an original Morin preamp built circa 1995 according to the PT date code and it sounds great. I know there’s been some interest on here and other forums so figured I would share here. Making some modern improvements to it regarding grounding, layout etc. but circuit wise it’ll be identical. They will also be hand wired like the original. I run a small amp company out of my home shop in NJ.

very, very cool

all of the morin stuff i've heard over the years has been absolutely killer

I wanted a Morin a while back. Depends on the price and parts I guess.

Yes. Please make it a 1u unit instead of that awkward 1 1/2u spacing on some of the originals.

Would be good to know a general price even if it is +/ - of what it ends up being.

Price is going to be $1299 usd shipped. 120VAC only version. Using all the best components I can source. I will add pics to this thread as the first (test) unit is complete. Will be all tube, 3GS plus CF & line out stage. 2 push pull gain pots same as the original as well. Morin did that rotary ‘high/low’ knob on the rear of most of the original units, but looking to put something that affects the sound a bit more noticeably. Any questions please ask, DM, etc.

Thanks
Brandon

If you’d like to reserve one from the first production run, please send me a DM and I’ll add you to the interest list.

I’m currently building and thoroughly testing the prototype unit, still waiting on some parts but starting with what I have in my current stock. Once it’s complete and I’ve verified that everything performs exactly as intended, I’ll open deposits for the first production run.

Everyone on the interest list will receive an email with a link to place a deposit and reserve a build slot. (Please include your email address in your DM.)

The first production run will be limited to 5 units, and build slots will be reserved in the order deposits are received.

Each preamp will be hand-built by me, individually tested, burned in, and inspected before shipment. I’ll also be posting progress photos and updates throughout the prototype build so everyone can follow along with the process.

Thank you all for the interest and support. I truly appreciate it and look forward to getting these into your hands.

Thanks,

Brandon

In the meantime, if you’d like to check out some of my other amps, mods, photos, and sound clips:

Is this based on the schematic floating around online or did you have one of these to reverse?

Is this a good example of the kinda tones your version will sound like??

I think it's quite nice. The one he later acquired sounded better to my ears.

sounds kind of similar to mine. Apparently they all sound a bit different from one unit to the next. Mike noted they were a pain in the ass to build so he didn’t build a ton of them. According to my own research he only made ~18 preamps. The rest were mods or his own builds in gutted AOR chassis’ it seems. Long story short, I went way too far down the rabbit hole chasing these Morin modded Marshall tones over the years, ended up learning how to build amps to figure out what made these mods tick so to speak. Fast forward a while I now run a small amp building company out of my home shop, found I enjoy building/modifying these things more than playing guitar. I have a bunch of clips of my Morin preamp posted online. Here’s one clip you can scroll through the videos it’s in a few

More parts beginning to role in. Test unit chassis is slated for delivery tomorrow. Will post more pics to this thread as the test unit build progresses.

Ordered a deep 2U chassis, shallow one showed up. Figured I would see if it would fit but the extra depth is needed for adequate space to remove the tubes & better heat dissipation. Another chassis is on the way, slated to arrive this week. Will update the thread at that point!
