I love VH2 tones best. As in Van Halen 2 lol not the amp

That reign in blood album tone is so good . But after that album they lost the tones
 
Don't know about all the amps for sure but my favorite guitar tones (outside of EVH) are:

Megadeth - Countdown and Youthanasia
Metallica - Master and Black
Skid Row - Youth, Slave, and Subhuman Race
Killswitch Engage - End of, As Daylight

Not sure what style you are working on, but for my money, it’s really hard to beat Zakk’s tone on No More Tears and Pride and Glory. (Love Zakk, but have no use for his nuclear hornets nest BLS tone.) No More Tears and Pride tones are vicious, but have so much organic, woody ‘girth’ going on and such clear, glassy articulation. Sounds like a mahogany less paul, glass tubes, and Baltic birch cabinets.

Chino Moreno lives 2 minutes from me, across the street from friends of ours....he and his wife came over on the 4th of July for a drunken cornhole tournament, I missed that one as we had a gig that day ?

The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater! Great rhythm and lead tones and probably my favorite song by them!
