I just popped in a set of BKP Rebel Yells in my Les Paul DC and I think I prefer the burstbucker or 490.... whatever pickups were in there before. This is my first run with some BKP and I have to say that so far I am unimpressed with these. Next I will install the painkillers in there, hopefully those will do better.

Different strokes for different folks. I tried the Aldrich pups which are the ultimate pickup to many, but ended up back with a Duncan Custom and Duncan Jazz.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I believe it as well... I bought a WCR Godwood that supposed to be the end all Les Paul pickup.

And the Burstbucker III that came in the guitar CRUSHED IT.

RR

Wow. I've heard nothing but good things out of the RY's.

I have Rebel Yells in my LP. Their strength is in the mix, live and recorded.

me either.

What are you hearing (or not hearing)?

I've been considering a Rebel Yell for my Les Paul Standard.

FWIW, I find the upper mids emphasized but not too hyped; and a bit attenuated in the low end. Slightly hotter than a typical PAF.

if you really dont like them, pm me.... i am intrested

Thanks, Matt

I'm curious if you can compare/contrast the Holy Diver to the Dimarzio Super Distortion?

I just installed a PK in a McNaught SC and it screams! I think it sounds killer, harmonics, depth and clarity all over the place

Nope never heard the super distortion. sorry

I didn't like the rebel yells in my lp either.

wolfetone fenris for the lp
warpigs or miracle mans for everything else
bg pickups hellabucker might be my favorite pickup right now though.

To the OP,

What tones are you going for and what amp(s) are using?

One cool pickup I used to have was a Van Zandt, small company, my local mom and pop shop just happened to have it, I used it in a PRS CE22, sold it with the guitar which was probably stupid, should have popped the dragon 2 back in there. It was along the lines of a duncan custom but maybe a tad more transparent but still enough output. Hmm, might try to hook up with another one.

I never bonded with the Rebel Yell in my Edwards LP. I threw in a set of Crawlers and fixed that though.

The amps I am using is a 2 Channel Dual Rec, and a Diezel Herbert... I don't know what I'm looking to get. I don't try to copy off anyone's tones and I don't try to sound like anyone, but I do love crushing, heavy tones and also more modern/rock or classic rock tones. My ear has only been accustomed to the burstbuckers or whatever stock pickups came in it before... the only marking on them was Gibson on the back. After adding these pickups and putting in RS Guitarworks modern pot kit in this, I would think that it would be screaming. I set the tones to my amps on noon and started tweaking and just couldn't capture a "great" tone out of these, EXCEPT... they sound a whole hell of a lot better on the neck with the clean channel on my Herbert. I don't solo much and use the neck for soloing, so I cant comment on how that would sound for any of you guys. I'm going to mess around with the pickup height and get back to you guys, but it looks like the painkiller is going in shortly!

Nothing wrong with that. I too dig the Burstbucker Pro's for some things, and the 490's aren't too bad either. I wouldn't be in a rush to switch them out by any means.
